First and foremost, it is important to realize this is not on par with a lot of the recent releases and is likely why is it $10 cheaper. The game mechanics are still somewhat behind the times to include CG animations during cut scenes. That being said, it is still a solid game. This is definitely an acceptable time killer during the summer drought of game releases for the new consoles and a little something different from everything else out there right now.

The single player campaign is reminicent of Sniper Elite V2 (ps3, xbox 360) with a few step ups:

Detection System- This is what really makes it fun. You are able to mask your shots with various environmental assistance (bombs, truck backfires, generators, weather) among snipers nests. If you are detected, you can relocate while the enemy closes in on your last known really creating a fun cat and mouse dynamic similar to the most recent Splinter Cell titles.
"Open" world- While the worlds are much more open compared to it's predicessor, it still has a few moments of alley-like level design. Regardless, this allows for a much better experience and sniping opportunities.
Empty lung- This may become old over time, but still is sweet and satisfying to this point. The sound of you focusing in, the bullet drop indicator, and then the sweet sound like the crack of a bat on a no doubt home run when you enter bullet time after a kill shot. This feature is what makes the franchise unique.
H2H Combat- FINALLY another option for this game besides a silenced pistol. I appreciate how you cannot take an enemy head on once detected, but can eliminate them if you are quiet and stealthy. This stays true to a stealth experience.

Sniper Elite 3 is an "OK" game. I would say that it is better than its predecessor. Graphics are good but not mind blowing. The gameplay can be fun, sniping someone really far away can be pretty satisfying, however i will not deny that there are some issues with it. Sniper Elite 3 can become repetitive, some people might even find it to be tedious and boring. There are game-breaking bugs-glitches that can be pretty annoying. Sound design isn't very good either. For a game that requires stealth it's surprising that the game designers didn't invest more time polishing the sound mechanics. For example, you can hear enemies but are unable to pinpoint their location as the sound is essentially unidirectional and this is terrible for immersion. This is an "OK" game that has issues that "could" get fixed with future updates. The repetitiveness however, that is something that they can't fix. I would advise people to get this game only if they enjoyed Sniper Elite V2. If you didn't like Sniper Elite V2, then chances are you won't like Sniper Elite 3 either.

If you like being patient and killing nazis you've come to the right game. Improved from the second in the series and a little tougher than last time, this is more of a stealth/sniper game rather than a run and gun game. Multiple ways to navigate maps, lots of objectives, clear cut directions. Bought a copy for my 67 year old father and he loves it. Bonus survival rounds included, have not tried multiplayer. Thankfully this is one of the few games anymore that seemed to focus on single player story mode rather than a multiplayer with a story mode quickly thrown in. You can choose your targets via binoculars and tag them, certain enemies have upgrades for your guns and binoculars on them so make sure to search them after you blow their face off. The bullet cam mode is the same as last time and still just as amazing. (who knew i would enjoy watching someone get shot in the testicles so much?)

Graphics are dated, but ok. I've seen much better on xbox 360 let alone the xbox one. The kill shot was an amusing surprise but got old soon and was just plain annoying after 100 times of watching the bones explode internally. A sniper should put the bad guys down, not as double as the Medical Examiner or CSI guy. There is a way to turn it off thankfully.
The AI logic in detection is just plain poorly thought out. But it is mostly workable. You pull the trigger once and you must retreat 35 yards and then can return and fire again. So long as you can retreat those few feet you can plink away all day. They sound the all-clear and resume their aimless wandering within a minute or so once you reach the magic distance. Rather than this being a 100% of the time activity it would have been alot more fun if there was a bit randomness to it. Sometimes they don't find you, other times they do and you have to try and escape.
The weapons you start with are predictably lame. Made all the worse by limited ammo amounts. For example, 16 rounds is all you're allowed for the only silenced weapon (a pistol).
The 3rd mission is the deal breaker for me. It is just no fun and there is no way to skip it. (spoiler alert)
You end up on the top of a thing which looks like a castle and are required to snip away 5-6 squads of Nazi's and Italian allies as they all spend 1000's of rounds trying to kill your informant (who is trying to escape). The enemy hides where you can sometimes not see them (meaning you can't find them at all unless you got lucky and followed them with the scope as they ran there). They will rapid duck and fire from this position eventually killing your assigned person to guard. 6 attempts to get past this point and off to the walk-throughs which were no help.
Designing a game which has at least one map which is designed to be no-fun is just not good game design. Look at Borderlands series. Some maps are easy, some are hard, but all are fun.
