4.0 out of 5 stars W7, December 23, 2007
This review is from: Sniper II (Paperback)
If you are a serious student of sniping, this is definately a good reference source to add to your professional library. It's always good to read another sniper's take on the subject matter; Lonsdale knows his stuff and does a descent job with this manual; Lots of good photos & illustrations help make it interesting. If you want a more thorough and in depth manual on the subject matter, one of the best I've seen is Major John Plaster's "Ultimate Sniper - Expanded & Updated Edition". As always, read as much as you can and talk to other snipers to share ideas & experience from actual operations. Lots of new data coming back from the GWOT.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true snipers selection, November 10, 1998

As a sniper and long range shooter, I found this book hit home every time. I have read several books on sniping but this it the best. The author obviously knows his subject.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sniper II, June 8, 2010

Sam Adams (Minnesota. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sniper II (Paperback)

This is a 1992 sequel to the author's 1987 Sniper / Counter Sniper, but it reads as an improved, more detailed rewrite of the first book. According to the author, "Sniper II was written as an advanced guide to special operations, not Rifle 101." (p. 137) Despite this declaration, the book reads like an introduction and elementary overview. As in Sniper / Counter Sniper the focus is on law enforcement use of snipers. The outline mirrors the first book. Rifles, scopes and other equipment used by snipers are reviewed, then training, followed by operations.

No topic is gone into beyond a summary of its elements. The first 110 pages cover equipment available at the time of publication, and are now outdated. Much of the later portions of the book couldn't possibly bear the responsibility of real training material, and in some cases they seem to be included only so the author can display his expertise and inside knowledge, and give advise. Any group that would actually engage in some of these tactics and operations would have no need for the rudimentary advise the author has given in this book. For readers curious about the use of snipers in law enforcement, the book's limitations and pretensions may not matter. For those officers in the field, about to go in harm's way, the book could only function as a review of the most elementary basics of what they already ought to know.

5.0 out of 5 stars The bible of PSD operations, December 4, 2007

This review is from: Sniper II (Paperback)
Mark has written a number of books on the subject and is an exceptional operator who puts into words a concise and entertaining manual encompassing all aspects of CP work. If you're looking for publications to use as a manual, refresher or just entertaining reading, Mark does an exceptional job. My advice is - buy the lot (he's written a few) and keep them in your ready bag as a great reference and working manual. A darn good read, thanks Mark.
