5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastically well written first hand account!
This is a fantastic book! I've read hundreds of war stories and this ranks near the top of the list, rivaling "Lone Survivor" as one of the best in recent memory. Not only is this a nail-biting true story; but it's an extremely well written one. Even the tid bits about their lives between battles is fun to read, especially the enlisted mans humor combined with British...

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read-but-HOWEVER:
Excellent, well written account of the life of a front line sniper's life as lived under daily threat. HOWEVER- In my hmmble opinion this book raises the issue of just what in the H is being acomplished by our presence in this totally screwed up society. What is it that is accomplished by daily "patrols" into the neighberhoods? Sounds like it is to supply the whackos...

This is a fantastic book! I've read hundreds of war stories and this ranks near the top of the list, rivaling "Lone Survivor" as one of the best in recent memory. Not only is this a nail-biting true story; but it's an extremely well written one. Even the tid bits about their lives between battles is fun to read, especially the enlisted mans humor combined with British slang that's absolutely hilarious. Finally, I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the heroics of our British allies in Iraq. There's only one thing our media likes to avoid more than the heroics of our soldiers, and that's the heroics of our allies who undermine the theme that the world is lined up against us. My compliments and thanks to the author for his great book and for his service in our common cause. Sniper One: On Scope and Under Siege with a Sniper Team in Iraq

I haven't blown through a book more quickly in years. It's non-stop action from start to finish and gives a fascinating look into life on the front lines in Iraq. Definitely gives a new appreciation for what those soldiers have to endure for our freedom. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sniper One Rules, December 17, 2008
This review is from: Sniper One: On Scope and Under Siege with a Sniper Team in Iraq (Hardcover)
I really enjoyed this book from the perspective of one of our British Allies participating in the Global War on Terror. This book is non-stop action and what I like about it is that the author is not a SF trooper but is in a regular straight leg British unit.

I pity the fool who gets in SGT Dan Mills crosshairs.Recommended for all military history enthusiasts.

This book is a great read. It is very well written. The writing is so clear and crisp the pages almost turn themselves. The book is also jam packed with action. This is one of those books where you feel like you get to know the people. I wanted the book to keep going after I read the last page. I was glad the author included an epilogue which followed up on he and his commrades. I hope Dan Mills continues to write. He is a born writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sniper One - Down and dirty with the grunts, January 15, 2009
By
This review is from: Sniper One: On Scope and Under Siege with a Sniper Team in Iraq (Hardcover)
This is one of the best books written about the Combat since "Don't cry for me Sergeant Major". The tension and excitement is palpable as 1 Batt PWRR fights for their lives. If you have even the slightest interest in the Military you will love this book. Sgt Mills gives a great "Warts and all view" of warfare.

A compelling read for those who like action, only this time it's for real. Vivid portraits of subordinates and superiors, no detail left behind, nice or bad... book takes you right into the action and doesn't let go till the end. For those who have read Bravo two zero, yeah, it's that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book filled with non-stop action!, December 26, 2008

This review is from: Sniper One: On Scope and Under Siege with a Sniper Team in Iraq (Hardcover)
I have read almost every book that deals with the ongoing War on Terror and it is rare to find one that comes close to keeping pace with this fantastic story.

The story was written by a British sniper who was based in Southern Iraq (as were/are most British soldiers.)

The action is constant and delivered in a easy to comprehend fashion. The author and his "mates" dry humor fill the few lulls in the action but, again, this book is simply filled to the brim with fighting between our British allies and our Iraqi Shi'ite nemesis al-Sadar.

Not much more needs to be said about this book - if you are looking for a great war read, an easy read, and a read that will simultaneously entertain then this is certainly the book for you. Also, getting an allies perspective on the War on Terror/War in Iraq is interesting as well.

Final note: The author of the book Barefoot Soldiers, Johnathan Beharry, is described in all of his glory and is a great addition to his war autobiography as well.

Highly recommended!!!

Most of the Iraq war stories have been dominated by American soldiers or Marines and it's refreshing to read Allied war stories for a change.
