Product Description

Long before Angela Lansbury brightened TV screens as prime-time s not-so-young literary sleuth in Murder, She Wrote, Mildred Natwick and Helen Hayes joined forces to solve mysteries as The Snoop Sisters.  Forming a one-of-a-kind whodunit writing team, eccentric elderly sisters Ernesta and Gwendolyn Snoop s insatiable curiosity all too often leads them to be deeply embroiled in real-life murders in New York City.   The Snoops Sisters witty imagination and utter determination were beloved by audiences young and old. For the first time ever on home video, this highly-anticipated collection includes the original TV movie pilot plus the four 90 minute telefilms.

About the Actor

Hailed by critics and fans as years ahead of its time, film and stage legends Mildred Natwick and Helen Hayes both earned Emmy® award nominations with Natwick winning for Outstanding Lead Actress.Supporting and guest cast include Art Carney, Bert Convy, Jill Clayburgh, Vincent Price, Steve Allen, Roddy McDowall, Tammy Grimes, Lou Antonio, rock star Alice Cooper and the last performance from Oscar® award nominated actress Paulette Goddard.

This show is very funny and entertaining!

The quality of the DVDs is excellent and, although it's from the 70's, the video is not grainy at all.

I vaguely remember this show from when I was younger. We didn't get a TV until I was 13, and "The Snoop Sisters" was on when we got it and went off shortly thereafter. I was beginning to think it had been my imagination because no one I spoke to about it remembered it. Every time I Googled it nothing came up except for the info at imdb.com ([...]) until a few months ago. Then I found that someone had posted the pilot episode on YouTube. So I e-mailed him to see if he had the rest of it, and if so, where'd he get it. He told me that it was available now here, so I grabbed it.

I love Helen Hayes in everything I've seen her in and when she pulls that hat pin out and it's the key that will let her get into anything, but mostly just uses it to start the car, that is priceless. (I really miss seeing ladies wearing those hats.) And the fact that she can't drive very well and although everyone around her is running into everything to get out of her way, but she never has a wreck, is classic. You just have to sit on the edge of your seat expecting her to run into something or someone.

The quality of the DVDs is excellent and, although it's from the 70's, the video is not grainy at all.

Definitely 5+ stars and anyone who loved "Miss Marple" and "Murder: She Wrote" will really enjoy this series.

Helen Hayes, Myrna Loy, Mildred Natwick and Silvia Sidney starred in a Movie of the Week called Do Not Fold Spindle or Mutilate.

NBC had a hit with their Sunday NBC Mystery Movie anthology, they decided to expand it to Wednesday night. The original rotating schedule included Banacek, Madigan, Faraday and Company and Cool Million. Faraday and Cool Million were quickly cancelled. The producers remembered the aforementioned special and decided to adapt the MOW.
Instead of four stars two were kept. Hayes was fresh off her deserved Oscar win for Airport and her charm is still was used to the hilt. Natwick was perfect as her sister.

Ernesta and Gwendolyn Snoop write mystery novels but they get their inspiration from real cases they solve. While the stories were very pedestrian, the stars made it enjoyable. But they could not save it from cancellation after five episodes.

The following are the five episodes:

The Female Instinct
Corpse and Robbers
Fear is a Free Throw
The Devil Made Me Do It
Black Day for Bluebeard

Note: Mildred Natwick won an Emmy for Best Actress in a Limited Series beating her costar, Helen Hayes

This show was on TV from 1972-1974, 40 years ago. I'm sure I'm not the only person who saw & loved this show at that time. We original viewers are now in our 60's or 70's - Many (including myself) have hearing difficulties. I doubt there are many young people wanting to see this show so WHERE is the Closed Captioning for us Seniors who really want to re-view these movies but can't hear the dialogue clearly?

I love detective stories on television and the reviews of this series made me want to get this particular set. It is the complete series as the show was canceled after 5 shows, and this set contains those 5 stories. I must admit that it is quite different from what we see today on the television. It is funny in a sort of tongue-in-cheek manner and the lead characters are both strong older women. Helen Hayes and Mildred Natwick are indeed great character actresses. It is vintage, so some of the clothing and the characters certainly do not have the sophistication of today's NCIS and brings home the rather shocking realization of the evolution of thought and techniques that are displayed in television over the years.

However, just as I still enjoy the Victorian and early 20th century crime stories, so I enjoy this series. It is fun to see some of the stars from my own childhood that are in these films. One of the other reviewers listed all of the titles and indeed, you have all of these. I think I liked the The Female Instinct show the best as I do love Art Carney. It was also a hoot to see that one of the shows "introduced" Alice Cooper!

If you are interested in vintage television and classic detective stories, I think you will find this series entertaining and a pleasant diversion.

This series was recommended to me since our family enjoyed Ellery Queen so much, but hopefully there is an error in the pricing, because almost 50 dollars(current price as i write this review) for 3 discs, clocking in at 360 minutes is not got happen, not by me, and probably not for others in these financially strapped times. So if you are the producers of this series, first off, thank you for bringing it to dvd, but secondly, please think about lowering the price.

What's being sold here is a CANADIAN release from March of 2011. The outrageously high price is because it's being treated by Amazon as an import. This same item will be released domestically on June 7, 2011 with a more realistic price point.

Great show, love that Milly Natwick! So glad it's finally coming to DVD.

Snoop Sisters Complete SeriesWould love to purchase this as a Mother's Day gift - but in these very difficult times, cannot justify the expenditure. Perhaps the suppliers could consider lowering the price, whereupon they may get a very pleasant surprise from the many interested parties who are prevented from purchasing this DVD only by the exorbitant price - surely some profit is better than none!

Tku for bringing this wonderful series out on DVD, but please lower the price.

What date is the snoop sisters set in?
What the heck is going on with Amazon DVD's? Snoop Sisters was just for sale a couple of weeks ago for $18.99, I believe, and now it's almost $40?? Crazy. Any idea about why this series, set back far enough (60's I believe) is going for so much? The film quality can't even be that good. jI... Read More

I, too would be interested in this, as I find it difficult to follow dialogue without subtitles. Did you ever find out? Thank you.
