Fred is my little Yorkie...he weighs just a hair under 4 pounds and this tote is very roomy for him and provides a good deal of air circulation - great for the hot weather. Fred loves that he is able to see what's happening from both ends of the carrier as well as out the top when he is on the go. Fred had no issues jumping right in and loves to just lay in it hoping someone will take him somewhere.
Now for me, I like the bag. As another reviewer mentioned, I wish it were a bit more "purse-like." And I take the blame here...the measurements are in the listing, but honestly, it didn't seem like it would end up being as large as what it is in person! Seeing the bag in the photo it looked cute enough and was one of the only pet carriers I looked at that appeared to have a large enough outer pocket to tote what I would typically want to put in my purse so I could avoid having to carry both. I like the way the carrier looked...all eco-friendly and earthy-crunchy. Nice neutral palette that I thought for certain I could pass off as a purse while I took Fred shopping. I would never leave any pet in a vehicle unattended and Fred is a very quiet boy, content to just nap away in the tote while I run errands. I was not looking at letting him loose in some boutique to wreak havoc...I just wanted the little guy to be by my side and was hoping to find the perfect carrier to double as both a purse and pet tote.
For me, this is not the perfect tote. It's good, for certain. The outer pocket is large enough to accommodate a checkbook, credit cards, cell phone, keys, etc...but the bag is large and bulky and unyielding. To carry it in the summer with bare skin can be somewhat itchy-feeling for me. I understand the need for the box-like construction, so the bag does not collapse in on the dog, but for me, it was more less like carrying a large, bulky, rough-feeling, hard box under my arm and is just better suited being carried by the handles versus on the shoulder. A picture depicting an actual human being carrying the tote would have helped put things in perspective for me...again, my fault entirely for simply not believing the measurements given!
I will still use the tote and have no doubt it will last for years and years - construction is very, very well done, but I am still in the market for the "perfect" Fred tote.
