This is a very high quality, well made dog backpack. I travel to Costa Rica 2-3 times a year with my companion dog Lucy (MinPin). We have had a number of other bags over the years; this is the best. I got the medium to assure plenty of room for 13 hours of confinement. The construction is sound--the framework of sturdy plastic-coated steel rods holds the bag open, and is doubly reinforced at the ends so that they don't poke through the fabric. The side storage bags are roomy. Screening all around assures good ventilation in hot environments. I don't usually carry her on my back, but I would slip a piece of padding through the lower back to pad the wheels against my back. It looks like a backpack--Lucy goes into restaurants un-noticed. As far as on the plane--it fits under the seat on most Delta flights, and where the space is a little too low, it is very easy to remove the bottom support panel, which allows the sides to cave in enough to fit under the seat. (A support bar across the middle front prevents collapse.) It is very cool!
I priced this bag on other sites at twice the price that I paid for it on Amazon--it goes by "roll away", "wheel away", and similar names, but all sites use the same photograph to advertise it.

Someone got it right,

I searched high and low for a backpack-style carrier I could use to take my dog to the vet weekly for her fluid therapy. She's 15, a schnauzer-dachshund mix (think long schnauzer or tall dachshund), 14 pounds and still pretty fidgety. She can't make the long walk anymore, and I don't have a car. The medium Wheel Away is the perfect size, even with her extra length. She can sit upright or lie down comfortably. Turning around inside is more challenging, but it can be done. I almost always carry her using the backpack straps, which are very comfortable and solid. My dog sometimes likes to sit and poke her head out of a small opening I make for her, but more often she simply lies down and goes for the ride, which tells me she's at ease with the carrier. The smartest feature is the mesh on three sides, giving her the ability to see what's going on around her and reducing panic. The side pockets are ample. I've rarely used the telescoping handle - she doesn't like the jerky nature of being pulled - but I'd probably use it in an airport where the floors are smooth. The carrier is sturdy and durable, easy to break down and collapse for storage . . . I really can't find anything to complain about. The designers simply got it right. I saw a pet owner with another brand of this type of carrier, and it looked poorly constructed by comparison; but this particular carrier apparently changed names, so there are two names it comes under. You can tell which to choose because it should be advertised as having won a design award in recent years. The only thing I'd change or recommend to the manufacturer is to loop the backpack straps at the ends to slip your hands in. I simply took the carrier to a shoe repair shop and had the loops stitched. Now all that's left is the final test - whether airlines accept the carrier for in-cabin travel and if it really does fit under the seat. The best purchase I've made in a long time. One warning: For whatever reason, and I'd read this before my purchase, you might get a different color carrier from what you ordered. I ordered black but got a red carrier instead. No big deal.

Handy,

This carrier is really handy, especially if you live in a city (I live in NY) and need to take your pet on public transportation. The only drawbacks are that the pet kind of half lies/sits on an angle when you wheel it--obviously the carrier has to be 45 degrees, and as a result, so is your pet. A regular, rectangular shaped carrier that has wheels allows your pet always to be in a comfortable lying position, but then doesn't have the backpack feature this does, which is quite convenient. Another drawback is the wheels kind of jut into your back when you carry it as a backpack. I think putting more padding on the back and perhaps adding a hip strap (to relieve shoulder strain) would be a great improvement to the product. It's also a little awkward for my dog to be in--she can only sit, and then when I lay it flat, she can't really stretch out too much and has to kind of curl up (she's a dachshund mix--maybe it's just her shape--longer than usual).
The reason I still give this carrier a good rating is because of its convenience. I'd say it's great for short trips and being able to carry it as a backpack is GREAT, but for longer trips (airplane travel), I'm thinking of getting a Sherpa-on-Wheels because it's more comfortable for my pet to sleep in for longer stretches of time.
