Book Description

February 22, 2008
Cinder Torley is an intelligent young woman who yearns to escape the stifling yoke imposed by her small town upbringing and unhappy marriage, but that doesn't mean she killed her husband. When he goes missing one night, Cinder quickly learns who---and how few---her friends really are in this darkly comic tale of dueling schemers and incompetents. The sheriff thinks this might be his only ticket out of back-country law enforcement. Coffee house barista Clark Norris knows a sordid, true-crime story could jumpstart his stalled writing career. Glamorous correspondent Bailey Weems sees a ratings bonanza that can make her a cable news star. And as for Velma and Naomi, who may or may not be part of the notorious Manitoba Six Canadian crime ring, they're only in it for the black market Phen-Fen. The surprising truth about what happened to Cinder's husband will lay waste to all these agendas, but will it prove Cinder's innocence?

About the Author

April L. Hamilton lives in Southern California with her two children and entirely too many pets. When she's not writing, kid-wrangling or pursuing her grandiose and hopeless dream of a neat and orderly household, she can generally be found reading, reclaiming the domestic arts (aka "crafting") or taking in a movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard to put down., February 18, 2008
By
The author, April Hamilton has a delightfully twisted sense of humor. She also does a great job of capturing regional accents in text, I could quite literally hear the characters voices inside my head as I read the dialog. This was a fun book, and darn near impossible to put down once I started. I really cared about the characters. I look forward to reading more from this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read!, February 17, 2008
I bought the book to see what it was like - after the author mentioned it on the Kindle forum. I liked it! The characters caught me, the plot was a wee bit convoluted, but not so much as to lose me. The twists and turns in it were fun and interesting. Even the bizarre events were believable. If you like a fun, dark comedy, that reads more like an adventuresome mystery - buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story!, February 24, 2008

I bought this book as the first that I would read on my Kindle by a recommendation from a friend. What a fun read - dark comedy that will remind you of Elmore Leonard, Carl Hiassen and Jennifer Crusie at their best. Do not get this book unless you have the time to read it - I read the whole thing in ONE sitting. Turns out you can cook dinner with your right hand and cradle the Kindle in your left! Read this book and brag to your friends that you've discovered the "Next Big Thing" in fiction. Kudos to April Hamilton. I can't wait to read her next one.
