5.0 out of 5 stars Snow Blind April 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Although not normally a fan of short stories, I thoroughly enjoyed Archer Mayor's "Snow Blind". I am very familiar with the Joe Gunther character; I have all of the books in that series. There was a quick exchange between the characters; also when I expected the story to go one way, it suddenly changed and went off in another direction. In my opinion, this is an Archer Mayor trademark. Things change when you least expect it. I think "Snow Blind" could easily be expanded into a full book, and I would enjoy reading that, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Snow Blind is an Exciting, Engaging Short Story April 23, 2012
By Shirley
Format:Kindle Edition
Archer Mayor, currently a New York Times Best Selling author (Tag Man: A Joe Gunther Novel (Joe Gunther Mysteries))and a past recipient of the New England Independent Booksellers Association Award for Best Fiction, has successfully created an immediately engaging story in Snow Blind. Within the first two pages, the reader is brought headlong into the tense circumstances of the two main characters, Joe Gunther and a young man, during a snowstorm. These characters are rapidly developed, so that not only their physical and intellectual presences, but their respective places in the context of society and its role in their lives, are readily imagined. Skillful changes in settings moving successively from exterior to interior frame the increasingly deeper interactions between Joe and the young man. Although this story is rightfully described as a mystery, it surpasses being a category of fiction by making resolution of the crime penultimate to Joe's emotionally charged reaction to the broader meaning of the young man's experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Snow Blind November 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was too short, it left me wanting more right away. The story line was great and I think I will read more of this author's works. Hopefully the standard will be great as the author has a lot of competition within his genre.

3.0 out of 5 stars The perfect appetizer March 3, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
For fans of the genre, Archer Mayor's "Snow Blind" is an expertly constructed short story complete with a counter-melodic subplot running underneath like a stream covered by the winter landscape. For those not familiar with his longer works, it is a tasty introduction to his succinct graphic style, a satisfying morsel to whet the appetite for a main course of meaty detective fiction set forth in his full length novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short stories too?
Having read all of his numerous novels I was greatly surprised to find that Mr. Mayor also wrote short stories. Of course it was every bit as good as any of his novels. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Snow Blind Falls Short
The story had substance, a good plot, but the resolution came too quickly with not enough background behind it. A little more build up would have been great.
