Wear your pajamas backward first, February 9, 2008
This review is from: Snow Day Dance (Hardcover)
As in Nancy Poydar's "Snip, Snip ... Snow!" this book begins with students cutting out paper snowflakes, just as flurries begin to fall outside their classroom. Quickly, the whispers start. Everyone wants a Snow Day the next day, but they'll be jinxed if they talk too much about it, or if they don't wear their pajamas backward and do the magic dance that night. Sure enough, the snow that comes cancels school the next day. All of the children take their sleds to a nearby hill, where they are surprised by a something that looks at first like a rainbow polar bear. Hubbel's illustrations here are particularly striking -- painting snow, after all, must take a special talent. The book includes two information pages about winter weather conditions and the creation of snowflakes. A nice addition to the Snow Day catalog.
