More About the Author

I make things up and write them down. Which takes us from comics (like SANDMAN) to novels (like ANANSI BOYS and AMERICAN GODS) to short stories (some are collected in SMOKE AND MIRRORS) and to occasionally movies (like Dave McKean's MIRRORMASK or the NEVERWHERE TV series, or my own short film A SHORT FILM ABOUT JOHN BOLTON).

In my spare time I read and sleep and eat and try to keep the blog at www.neilgaiman.com more or less up to date.

I really loved this version of the story. Neil Gaiman is a mad genius and I absolutely adore every single thing he writes. I really wish I could turn this into a real play...it would be fantastic.

Bought and 're-read at long last. Couldn't find the original comic book effort, and while I think the queen, as voiced by Bebe Neuirth is more spectacular than a flat script, it was nice to see the pen and ink drawings again.

My friend recommended this since I was excited over Cameron Jace’s Snow White Sorrow with Snow White as a vampire and it certainly did deliver darkness and blood. It makes sense to turn Snow White into a vampire since she is supposed to have the snow white skin, ruby red lips, there's that mention of her mother pricking her finger, and the sleeping in a coffin. It is essentially a very early vampire tale. Admittedly, I’m not as versed on Neil Gaiman as I should be since I’ve only ever seen the watered down Hollywood-ized movie versions of his books, so I was expecting more of a flight of fantasy with a darker edge, and it was a lot more adult than I was expecting. But it is certainly a fascinating viewpoint from the Evil Queen. And it should be mentioned that this is the size of a novella, and written as a play, but that didn’t by any means detract from the impact and atmosphere of being within the story. It did try to make the mind try to imagine what it would be like actually acted on a stage, making it even more interactive than just a basic story.

I believe this is my first experience with reading a fairy-tale retelling but if other titles in the genre are anything like Snow, Glass, Apples then I will be reading more! I loved how the story of Snow White inspired this dark paranormal/fantasy short story...and I enjoyed reading the "wicked stepmother's" point of view. The good versus evil role reversal in this retelling was quite creative and well done. As always, Neil Gaiman shares his wonderfully horrific imagination with readers. I just love him!

Snow White told in an entirely different light, this blew me off completely. Odd, creepy and eccentric. Greatly written. Neil Gaiman is a genius.
