Book Description

August 2004
Active meditation is the solution for those who don’t have the time or patience to sit still and wait for enlightenment and peace. Snow Melting in a Silver Bowl is a collection of activities designed to focus the mind – if only for a moment – to see the spiritual in the physical world.

Active meditations are ceremonies of "intention" – the universal spiritual practice of simply paying attention to the inner and outer worlds. Author Nancy Cunningham helps readers choose a prop – or props – that represents a physical element that appeals to one of the five senses. She then offers steps to get in touch with a universal energy that brings about a shift in consciousness and perception. The active meditations collected in the book include ceremonies, rituals, celebrations, observation, tangible visualization, and dramatized prayer.

Snow Melting in a Silver Bowl offers a variety of ceremonies and rituals for special events, seasons of the year, and even mini rituals designed for everyday use. The active meditations in the book help readers experience the extraordinary in the ordinary.

The meditations are illustrated with the work of photographer Denise Geddes – evocative images that capture the soul of everyday objects.

Snow Melting in a Silver Bowl is the perfect companion or gift for anyone who wants to live deeply and connect with an energy that lies just below the surface of the everyday world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Snow Melting in a Silver Bowl, September 8, 2004
By

This review is from: Snow Melting in a Silver Bowl: A Book of Active Meditations (Paperback)
In today's fast paced world, we do not seem to have the time to slow down and devote a small part of our day to just ourselves. Everyone else wants or needs us, yet we sometimes cannot see how much we need to understand our own self and make time just for ourselves. I loved this book because of the simplicity of the small things we could stop and do each day - just for ourselves. I kept reading things that made me stop and think "why didn't I think of that before?" The words and the photos in this book, brought peace and relaxation to me in a way that other books have not been able to. I would highly recommend this unique book to those who are interested in any type of meditation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of ideas for personal meditations, January 24, 2008

This review is from: Snow Melting in a Silver Bowl: A Book of Active Meditations (Paperback)
In the first place, it's relaxing just to page through this book and look at the photographs. But besides photos, the book is also full of ideas for personal meditations, based upon all kinds of everyday human experiences. In addition, I found this book helpful since it includes many, many suggestions for "props" that will enhance meditations. The props (candles, incense, small figurines, photos, etc.) are common items that would be found in most people's homes. For anyone who likes to meditate, comtemplate, or just sit and think, this book should be helpful.
