Not bad, not bad at all,
This review is from: The Snow Queen (Faerie Tale Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is actually one of the better "character" driven romances of the "historic" period. From the beginning, the reader knows that Michael and Hetty love each other and are engaged, so this is not a book that get the two of them together in typical romance fashion. Basically Michael moves away to work with "consumption" sufferers and he and Hetty are apart for two years before being reunited.
The book is based on the fairytale of "The Snow Queen" but that sort of misses the mark in my opinion. The author was trying to show that Michael's heart becomes ice without Hetty and she "thaws him out", but that falls a bit flat. The sex scenes were very tame with a lot left unsaid, but I liked the way the author really detailed the desire the two characters have for one another, especially Hetty's desire to Michael was handled beautifully. The other characters in the book were also reasonably well developed, much better than one usually sees in these novels. You could certainly do much worse than this book, but I give it three stars because while it is ususually good in this genre, it wasn't brilliant or fantastic. A good solid read, especially if you're looking for something a bit different.
