In addition to looking attractive, Snow River's popular end-grain construction is also good for knives because the wood separates slightly then rejoins with each cut. Helpful for blades, this also reduces visible wear-and-tear on the board compared to ones with horizontally oriented grain. Although this is a great piece of wood, it was not what I thought I was buying. It was advertised as cherry wood, but when I got it the wrapper said "Select Northern Hardwoods". Neither the picture or the narrative let me know it had feet, which meant I could effectively only use one side of it. Even with Amazon's generous offer to discount, the unexpected disappointments, along with the still-hefty price, were too much for me to keep it. It was returned. The only thing I ever have returned to Amazon.
