5.0 out of 5 stars I just loved it!, September 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Snow Storm (Paperback)
This book was so much fun to read. I appreciate the hero being such an average guy - even if he is a local celebrity - who finds himself in an extraordinary situation and somehow manages to come out alive, while doing the right thing. The ending is a great surprise!

Snow Storm was a fast-paced, exciting story... I felt as though I knew the characters, and I certainly didn't want to put the book down until I got to the last page. Mike Alger did a great job!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars & Two Thumbs Up!, December 24, 2002
This review is from: Snow Storm (Paperback)
Greg O'Brien, well-known TV meteorologist and the main character of Mike Alger's novel, Snow Storm, has a problem. Someone is trying to kill him and he doesn't know why. Here's a clue: The title of the novel, Snow Storm is a double entendre for the hero's winter weather forecasts as well as the street name for that illegal white powder that some people delight in sniffing up their noses. Alger's Snow Storm is a fast-paced, action-packed read that will keep you turning the pages and wishing you could read faster. Not only is Snow Storm extremely well written and the plot well-crafted, but the main character, Greg O'Brien has a quick tongue and a sense of humor that provides the reader with just enough comic relief to balance the thrill-a-minute action as events unfold in the story. Oh, and you learn a bit about weather forcasting as a bonus too. Five stars and two thumbs up for Mike Alger's Snow Storm. It's a terrific read!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wild Ride, October 18, 2002

This review is from: Snow Storm (Paperback)
What a romp! Mike Alger has written a fun and fast paced novel with an extremely likeable central character. Greg O'Brien, local meteorologist extraordinaire, gets unwittingly pulled into the nasty web of a diabolical drug lord, and goes eyeball to eyeball with a quirky assassin as a result. Fortune shines on Mr. O'Brien however, as he is able to slip through the would-be killer's clutches time and again. While trying to stay alive, he's also trying to solve the riddle as to how he got into such a mess in the first place!

Snow Storm is well plotted, with interesting characters, and believable dialogue. Greg O'Brien, our reluctant hero, is a family man who loves his wife and adores his children. He doesn't swear, and he goes to church. How refreshing! We can't help but worry what's next for our humble meteorologist, but Greg does have some help, thank goodness.

This book is a wild ride from start to finish, and Mike Alger has done a terrific job. Let's hope he keeps writing, a Greg O'Brien series of books would be great!

Mike Alger is a TV weatherman who wrote a mystery set in the Reno area. If you like lots of action, and want to know about behind the scenes in TV news, this is a good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this fun new book!, September 13, 2002

Snow Storm was a kick! We both read it very quickly - didn't want to put it down and competed for who got it at night! Snow Storm is fun, captivating, imaginative and well-written. We both appreciated that the author didn't seem to take himself or this book too seriously; the leading man is not so heroic that he becomes larger than life. His ability to mess up and then poke fun at himself before rallying to victory make him very likeable and enjoyable to follow. And the author's knowledge of locale and experience as a weather man make his characters very believable - I felt the hero could have been the guy living next door. Big kudos to Mike Alger for this first book - it's a winner and we hope he writes many more!
