Editorial Reviews

Review

"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: The Art and Creation of Walt Disney's Classic Animated Film is filled with such detail, from the beginning of production in July 1934 to the completion in December 1937. This beautiful art book is also informative." (Fred Patten, Animation World Network)

"Author J.B. Kaufman spent years researching the film's history, interviewing participants and studying the marvelous archival art that appears in these pages. The result is a work that can be appreciated equally as a piece of film history and as a collectible art book, a joy for anyone who loves film, animation and the magical world that Walt Disney created." (D23, The Official Disney Fan Club)

"The most surprising thing about the catalog, is that if it had been handed to me without any hint that that "main book" (The Fairest One of All: The Making of Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) existed, I would have been convinced that this was the best art-book ever about the movie. That "catalog" is 256-page long and must contain about 600 illustrations, at least 30% of which I believe I had never seen before." (Didier Ghez, Disney History blog)

Anyone who is an animation buff,Disney-phile or just a kid at heart will love this book. It is beautifully compiled with numerous drawings, animation cells and inside information on the creation of an American classic of film history. It keeps the legend and love for Walt Disney alive.

This book is so awesome. There are images of the characters in development that look different from the characters that ended up in the movie and a lot of information about the characters and the creation of the movie. It is a hefty book, with dozens of pictures/sketches/etc. and so it is worth the price. I bought this as a gift for my sister-in-law who is a Disney fan and whose favorite Disney character is Snow White and I can hardly wait to see her face when she opens it. :) I would recommend this to any Disney fan or artist.

While not the first animated feature in general, Snow White was the first of its kind, and this book shows it. Pieces of backgrounds, character designs, cels, pictures of rotoscoped film, and finished stills from the film have been lovingly preserved in this well-researched project of J.B. Kaufman's. It is a very interesting book, and for those studying animation, it is essential. You can see how the designs of characters transformed over artistic debate, and you can learn to distinguish styles of the animators. Definitely worth the time upon your next viewing of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

I enjoyed this book very much. However I wish there were more rare images. I've seen most of these pictures in other books. Still a nice book.

I like this book a lot. It has a lot of sketches, and pre sketches of the characters. My favorite ones are of snow white, and how they were going to draw her before. It's interesting to see how the character development changed. This is just like the art of Disney books, but a little more informative. It is also bigger than a typical art of disney book.

My dad was the animater who drew the huntsman in Disney's Snow White. I have been looking for any documentation that honored his work. I found it in this well done book.
