5.0 out of 5 stars In the Snow : Who's Been Here?, January 19, 2000
By A Customer
Two children have to go sledding without a sled. On the way they see evidence of animals and guess what they were. Would have been better if the illustrations would have shown the footprints, when appropriate. Saving grace: the blurbs at the end that explain how the children knew which animal had been there. Contains excellent black and white illustrations and will be of interest to the students from the 3rd grade through the 7th grade levels.

My students enjoyed this book immensely. We used it as part of our unit studying winter habitats. The illustrations are fabulous. The concept helped my students become nature detectives.

This review is from: In the Snow: Who's Been Here? (Hardcover)
This picture book is one in a series of books, perfect to teach inference as well as perspective from beautiful illustrations. A captivating mentor text for an author study. I use this book, along with the others in this series in grade 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple and pretty. Very pretty., October 27, 2011
A woodsy walk in wintertime, full of observatins of the natural world. Map at the front of the book shows the route the children walk, all the way to the suprise at the end.

We liked Lindsay Barrett George's "Box Turtle at Long Pond" book, and this book showcases her signature style of lillustrating the natural world.

I live in the Arizona desert. Any chance for a book about a high pine forest, Mrs. George? I'll keep my fingers crossed).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story and great science, September 26, 2008
Maybe it's because I'm something of a nature girl, but something about this book just tugged at my soul. And to think that the basic idea is to get us to learn basic signs of woodland animals. But even as this goes on we get a lovely story about a pair of siblings wandering in the beautiful snowy woods, an aura that lends itself through the pretty narrative and the drop-dead gorgeous illustrations that lend themselves to all perspectives. The ending is sweet, and I love the extra page that gives basic animal facts.
