From School Library Journal
Grade 4-8-It is hard to determine the intended audience. Although the photographs show teenagers, some of the vocabulary that is randomly highlighted in the texts and then explained in the glossaries will be familiar to younger children. One paragraph in Snowboarding makes reference to the glossary for finding words dealing with tricks yet no such words are there. Instead, readers will find words like courtesy, flexibility, and responsibility. Some of the vocabulary used in the books is also way too cutesy or likely to become dated. The author briefly covers topics for both beginner and advanced in-line skaters and snowboarders but the arrangement seems haphazard and each topic is so short that the books could only be used as introductions to the sports. The color photographs lack crispness and sometimes appear washed out. The suggestions for further reading have publication dates between 1996 and 1998; there are many newer titles available. Stick with titles in the "Radical Sports" series (Heinemann Library) and "Extreme Sports Collection" (Rosen) instead.
