4.0 out of 5 stars Magnum Snowflake, March 14, 2009
This review is from: Snowflake Damascus, Gray Aluminum Handle, ComboEdge
This is a great knife for entry level collectors. The most high end knife I own is a Kershaw Storm II which is exceptionally well built in all aspects but this Magnum Snowflake is my new favorite knife for the following reasons:

The aesthetic design of this knife to me, is cutting edge. Though I've seen other knives that have used the same frame build, they have different inlays and even materials. The inlay on this knife is a very finely textured, anodized, grey, aluminum that looks and feels stunning and the circular carvings within it add a beautiful reflective shine to the handle. It is a joy not just to look at but to feel the handle as well. There are knives that are made just for cutting, have the same old dated wood inlay handle and the same design as built generations past, but this one is a step in a whole other direction, and while sold as though it were a budget piece, its design sets it apart from every thing else.

Other stores label the blade as damascus but that is not true, this is single layer stainless steel which's design I can only describe to be similar to embossing. The space inbetween the embossed "scales" is like a grainy, dark texture which makes the blade feel and shine very uniquely at certain angles and also under different kinds of lighting. From the pictures available online its hard to figure out what the scales would look like in front of you, but when it is, its exceeds your imagination.

The blade and serations are reasonably sharp, though its not the most solid knife, I am glad to use it for every day carry for its unique feel and beautiful look when using it for minor cutting tasks.

My only qualms with the knife are these

-The thumbstud is slightly lopsided towards the handle, this doesn't affect the ability to open the knife but looks unusual, I don't know if that is the way it is designed/intended.

-The frame showed very small signs of movement, but that was easily fixed by adjusting with my hex head screw drivers.

-There is a little bit of movement of the blade when in the locked position, but its within acceptable limits. I tried to tighten the center bolt but I could not strike a perfect balance between ability to open the blade and its stiffness while in the open position. The play of the blade isn't bad, this is generally an issue that arises on a per knife basis. I have 3 identical Jeep folder knives(identical to each other, not identical to the Snowflake) and one of them has a terrible amount of movement while in the locked position while the other two are rock solid.

Despite the flaws this is my new favorite in my small collection of knives and should easily become the favorite among many others. I could easily see a knife like this go for much more but for what I paid, it feels like a steel and I'm hard pressed to find any better value.
