5.0 out of 5 stars Special
A gentle book that has no words. The story is in the pictures. For my three year old son who so desperately wants to read, he had no problem 'reading' this story. He was able to tell a story, look at the pictures and pick out different details and tell a different story. The pictures are gentle and kind and show a special relationship with imagination, dreams, wishes,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't get the Board Book, okay story
I know I will be thrashed for my review but we got this today and I was excited to read it to my 3 year old. I was let down. I think the primary problem is that we received the board book and the illustrations are much too small in this format for anyone to enjoy. My daughter kept squinting and practically had her nose to the book to try to figure out what was going on...

Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Snowman, December 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Snowman (Hardcover)
A children's classic, a must for every book shelf. The wordless format lets the children create their own story. We purchased the book for our then three year old, at eighteen he still reads and loves the book. This year I am purchasing another copy for our thirteen year old who also loves the gentle illustrations and the heart warming message. This book truly illustrates that words are not necessary for a book to be a literary great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Magical, January 11, 2000
This review is from: The Snowman (Paperback)
The simplicity of its message, the sweetness of the characters, the emotion of the story, all serve to make THE SNOWMAN a child's fantasy come true. I'd recommend the video first, as the music makes the scenes come alive, but reading the book alone allows for the imagination to take off with the little boy and journey with him through the snowy night. Hopefully this book will become a modern-day children's classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great pre-reading activity with your toddler, November 1, 2004
This review is from: The Snowman (Hardcover)
I love this story. The fact that the story is without words was a plus. This book provided an excellent opportunity to snuggle up with my little boy and listen as he told me the story he saw in the pictures. It was the beginning of many discussions about the books we read at bedtime and those he had later to read in school. He is 21 years old now and a very articulate man, and I have some wonderful memories of helping him to learn to read.

The story itself evokes the magic we all knew as children, and the poignant ending leaves open the door to hope that the snowman will re-appear when winter comes again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Use this with high school kids!, January 20, 2006

Briggs has perfected the art of the wordless book, and this is a great title to use to teach older kids how to do storyboarding for video or movie-making. Compare the book to the video as a final "lesson" and students will see the intricacies of the craft. This newly reissued edition has a "sparkly" cover, and is sure to be a favorite for families with kids of all ages, as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A cute story, October 21, 2000
By A Customer
I like this story because it doesn't take that long to read. My toddler has a short attention span so this book worked well for him. The ending, however, may be a slight "shock" to preschoolers because the snowman melts; but that can lead to a good dicussion for parent and child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvellous, touch everyone's heart !, December 3, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Snowman (Hardcover)
The greatest children book I ever read, drawing is beautiful and the story is so touching. It touches every one's deep deep heart and wish can fly with the Snowman in the sky. Highly recommend as a gift at Christmas time for children and even adult.

Don't miss it. Just like no one miss 'The Little Prince'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic!, February 10, 2002
By A Customer
The Snowman...When we are children, the impossible, the fantastic, seems completely possible, if we only believe in it strongly enough. This wonderful picture story by Raymond Briggs depicts a little boy's magical adventure with his snowman who has come to life. This is, to put it simply, a must-have book. If you enjoy it, you must---MUST see the animated version! Words cannot possibly do it justice---you just have to see it. Enjoy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Magical experience seen thorough a child's eyes, October 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Snowman (Hardcover)
This book was one of my favorites as a child and I'm SO glad to have it again. This story is a magical, fulfilling one that gives you a "warm cozy feeling". Whip up some cocoa, snuggle under a warm blanket and read this to your child on a wintry night. Absolutely enchanting!
