5.0 out of 5 stars What Fun!! - a review of "Snowmen at Christmas"
Ever wake up and find that your snow-person looks different than you left them? Maybe a little slumped to one side or missing a nose. Well, Caralyn and Mark Buehner are here to tell you what they have been up to.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute but no replacement for the Christmas classics
Snowmen at Christmas is a cute book. The illustrations are creative and colorful. I found the text, in rhyme, trite and sounding a bit too much in format like "The Night Before Christmas." My 6-year old was not interested and my 3-year old was mildly curious about the stroyline. I would have rather borrowed from the library.

Ever wake up and find that your snow-person looks different than you left them? Maybe a little slumped to one side or missing a nose. Well, Caralyn and Mark Buehner are here to tell you what they have been up to.

In this book, they are celebrating the season! They are escaping with their friends and family to frolic in the town square. The rich drawings show us that the snow-kids are staring at the toys in the store windows, and at the twinkling lights; while the adults are decorating a tree, preparing treats for a party and so on.

Kris Kringle shows up and then,

"While the fiddler plays,
And sweet silver bells ring,
They sing songs about snow,
And the birth of a King.

Five Stars. Sweet fun with wonderful, warm pictures. A great read-aloud that my children certainly appreciate. A wonderful addition to the home library.

The Buehner snowmen inhabit a twilight zone some where that humans stay in after sunset and do not even peek out the window until sunrise, leaving our frozen friends free to pull their action-packed, gleeful shenanagans the whole night through before sliding back to their approximate original positions somewhat worse for the wear. A sequel to "Snowmen at Night," this title celebrates the yuletide festivities with deorations, a flying snow Santa and reindeer and even snow gifts. Both, with rhyming text and colorful action paintings said to be oil over acrylic, will be enjoyed by the picture book crowd. Yes, you can search out the hidden pictures on each page, if you wish... A good choice for personal, school, and public libraries.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Christmas favorite at our house and Hidden Pictures- an extra bonus!!!, December 7, 2008
This review is from: Snowmen at Christmas (Hardcover)
This Christmas book NEVER sits on the shelf. The story is not only fun and entertaining for the kids, but I quite enjoy the fun rhyming story myself. In addition, there are cleverly hidden pictures on every page- a T-rex, santa face and bunny among a few others, which is my kids' favorite part. Put on your reading glasses to find them though- they are hidden very tricky!!!! We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book and Snowmen and Night. Put this one on your holiday list!

I bought the book because of the beautiful illustrations. I loved all the "lights" (kind of reminded me of a Thomas Kincaid painting). But then found out later about the hidden pictures. All 3 kids, ages 3, 5, and 7 love to look for them. Some are real easy to find for the 3 year old and some are tougher for the 7 year old.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bedtime book for the Christmas season!, January 14, 2006
By
This review is from: Snowmen at Christmas (Hardcover)
We signed this book out from our local library and it has become a new Christmastime favorite. The story is simple and fun, and the illustrations are wonderful. The glowing colors of the night sky, Christmas lights twinkling on snow covered trees, the coaly grins of the snowmen are all just charming. Will have to check out the authors' previous book as well-

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Christmas Magic, December 18, 2011
This review is from: Snowmen at Christmas (Hardcover)
I came across this book in a store and fell in LOVE with it immediately. The illustrations are positively enchanting - they capture the warmth and excitement of Christmas, all the while largely depicting the cold wonder of snowy nights. I purchased it for my then 3 month old son, hoping he'd come to love it so that I'd have an excuse to gaze at it and share with him some of the "Christmas Magic" I miss and crave from my own childhood.

To my delight, at just 15 months, he already won't stop "asking" for this book. He LOVES it! And I can only imagine his love will grow as we bring it out again each December. The storyline is fantastic too - a little boy, snug in his bed and dreaming of Christmas treats, imagines that during the night all the snowmen in town meet and celebrate Christmas together. It's that *magic* that is so precious to childhood, wrapped up in a wonderful story. But it doesn't end there - the snowman celebration incorporates the best of our own Christmas traditions: games, singing, treats, community, family, and of course, Santa.

If you're considering this book - as a gift or for your own children - hesitate no longer. It's beautiful, sweet, enchanting, and I promise you it will be one of "those things" that, when your children spy it as adults, brings all the magic right back - even if just for an instant.

5.0 out of 5 stars When people sleep, the snowmen come out to play!, December 1, 2011
This review is from: Snowmen at Christmas (Hardcover)
My first grader loves this book which shows snowmen in their element on Christmas Eve. A young boy goes to bed on Christmas Eve, wondering what snowmen get up to when all else it quiet and asleep. In his dream, he envisions snowmen gadding about town, with their very own little pet snowdogs, browsing the stores, admiring the twinkle lights, and entire snowpeople families trimming trees, and having their very own Christmas party!

My daughter enjoyed reading this out loud, and since it is in verse, she attempted to sing it to me in a medley of familiar holiday tunes:) The illustrations are fun and in vibrant color, and sure to delight readers of all ages.
