Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-K–Insects, worms, and slugs curl up in roses, slumber under leaves, and doze in shells in this bedtime rhyme. While some of Ross's verses are clever ("Cuddle in a huddle/in a grove of tall trees"), others are odd or uninviting ("Snooze away softly/in a puddle of sap"). Long's watercolor illustrations of well-dressed animals are playful, but the complicated sleepwear looks out of place on creatures with antennae, multiple legs, and wings, and the white backgrounds make it seem as if the bugs are going to bed in full daylight. While the book's title and premise are droll, the realization is lackluster.–Rachel G. Payne, Brooklyn Public Library, NY

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful lullaby book, November 19, 2004

This review is from: Snug As a Bug (Hardcover)
This book is great as a bedtime routine book for a young child getting ready to go to bed. It's words help create a sense of security to going to sleep on their own. They get a kiss and a hug from their parents or caregivers and get ready to sleep as snug as a bug. The colorful illustrations are of all sorts of bugs and their comfortable beds, be they in a dirty old sock or under a rock. The words go well with the illustrations. This book is a soothing preparation to go to bed. It is appropriate for children ages 2-4.

This review is from: Snug As a Bug (Hardcover)
I buy books for my grandkids, ages 4-6. They have been read to since birth and all love books. I am the "Book Grandma" so they get a book for each occasion. I am so please with this book, they giggle and laugh at the words and illustrations. I would highly recommend for this age group and also for new readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Snug As a Bug (Hardcover)
This book is absolutely wonderful. My 3 year old loves it and he even knows the words by heart. The pictures are outstanding and the rhymes are very easy for small children to follow and remember. This is a very enjoyable book.
