4.0 out of 5 stars Found it for much less on Dreamsoftbedware.com
This pad is exactly what I was looking for: natural, soft, dustmite-resistant, and WASHABLE! However, Amazon is pricing it at $145 plus shipping. I found the EXACT same product for $116 with FREE shipping on Dreamsoftbedware.com!
I am really happy with this wool mattress pad, and this is just the 1" version. They also make a 1 1/4" and a 1 1/2" pile version, and...

3.0 out of 5 stars not thick
I would recommend getting a thicker wool mattress cover. This one packs out and doesn't provide much cushion at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really quite perfect (synthetic backing though)!, February 10, 2010

This review is from: SnugFleece Deluxe Wool Mattress Pad - Twin
One of the reasons we bought this wool mattress pad is that my wife co-sleeps with the baby in her bed [safely]. By dint of the fact that the baby sleeps there throughout the night, there was always the inevitable spit-up or leaky diaper that occurred. Which entailed stripping the bed in the middle of the night, dabbing at the spots while trying to make sure the mattress didn't absorb the liquid, then replacing with a clean sheet. Not fun at 4am. Again. So we decided to get a waterproof mattress pad. But 99.9% of the waterproof ones are laminated with vinyl..which is a bad chemical for kids (or anyone) to be around, especially if you're a baby and you sleep right on it! We were at our wits' end because we didn't want any liquid being absorbed into the mattress and causing bacteria to grow, yet also did not want the baby to inhale chemicals as he slept. Thankfully, we happened upon this Snugfleece wool pad! It's naturally waterproof and helps wick moisture away; which was great being that young kids/babies sweat a LOT through their heads while they sleep. I can venture so far as to say that the pool of sweat my kid used to wake up in and spread on the sheet are less than half of what they used to be, maybe even 3/4. I'm serious. My wife really couldn't believe it!

Another great thing about this pad is that even though it didn't seem so thick when we first took it out of the package (which by the way *is* clear vinyl-- 1) it doesn't let the wool breathe 2) is a no-no because of the chemicals it releases..y'know that smell when you open something in a vinyl package? That's the offgassing of the chemicals), once its on the bed it is cushy enough to notice a difference, yet not too cushy that it's a danger for a baby sleeping there who needs a firmer surface. It also keeps the baby ever-so-slightly warmer without us having to dress him in as many layers. My wife does not use a heavy blanket (or even a medium weight one) in order to keep the bed safe and the baby from getting tangled/stuck under it, so this is great that it helps regulate the temperature!

Just to be aware, the backing isn't natural sheepskin; the wool is somehow embedded into a synthetic, slightly-plasticy-feeling cloth. Disappointing on that count, but still happy with the product.

Overall, we are extremely happy we made this purchase as it has definitely made our lives easier knowing that the baby sleeps better and in turn, *we* sleep better. Would probably purchase again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't believe it -- really regulates temperature!, January 22, 2007

I live in Florida.....and my husband likes to sleep with a down comforter. We had to get rid of our memory foam pad because it was simply too hot. I read the information about the wool mattress pad and though I was doubtful, I was also desperate because our mattress is just too firm/hard without having something on top. I love love love this. It is just so nice -- it doesn't totally mold around you like memory foam but it still relieves pressure points and it does not get hot at all. If anything I sleep much cooler because I never feel sweaty.
I would guess that if it ever got cold here the insulating features of wool would come into play too.
Also, the fact that memory foam comes with a warning that it is HIGHLY FLAMMABLE always freaked me out...the wool has natural flame resistance. I am buying two more pads for each of the twin beds so that I won't worry so much about the kids, either.
Love this product!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A cozy addition to your baby's crib, December 27, 2007
Our baby was really struggling to sleep more than about 45 minutes per nap, and many were about 30 minutes. I can't say for sure whether the difference was the SnugFleece mattress cover or a tactic we learned from The No-Cry Sleep Solution: Gentle Ways to Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night. But whatever the reason, our 10-month-old is now sleeping up to two hours per nap, and having relatively few wakings at night, so at the very least, the mattress pad is doing no harm--and it feels so cozy to the touch. I know I would surely prefer the SnugFleece to sleeping on a crib mattress alone--those things are about as comfortable as hardwood floors!

5.0 out of 5 stars I sleep much better now! Worth the expense., July 23, 2011

I generate a lot of body heat and I was always tossing around to get a cooler spot. I've read a lot about wool and it's heat-transferring properties among other natural benefits. This pad works great. I bought a wool-stuffed pillow on Amazon too to go along with this. I feel a bit odd I made it this far in life not knowing about the traditional benefits of sleeping on wool underbedding. And I bought this in the middle of the hot NYC summer too, I'm looking forward to the benefits of wool in the winter as well.

It's true the wool is stitched to a polyester backing. It doesn't matter since it is on the underside and I'm sure it makes this more durable. I'm satisfied. 5 stars.
