Editorial Reviews

Based on a true story, a group of 147 overworked and underpaid Colombian soldiers find the treasure they didn't seek; $46 million. The film is a surreal black comedy and follows 4 of the 147 soldiers who were part of the anti-guerrilla "Destroyer" battalion, and tells of their story leading up to and after finding the money. The soldiers decide to divide the money between themselves instead of giving the money to the Colombian government. The soldiers don't have food, water or toilet paper, but instead use their bags full of money as pillows. As the soldiers are recalled and taken back into civilization, they start to use their money for bad things, spending it on brothels, alcohol and prostitutes. The discovery the soldiers made changed their lives. They no longer live in poverty and now are capable of achieving their dreams. Now they hope to return to civilization and make their dreams come true.

This movie is based on a very amazing true story about a Colombian Army unit who finds a rebel cache of millions of USD. Instead of turning it in, they take the money and tell no one. Unfortunately, the find is not a secret for long. The title means "Dreams Cost Nothing" (literally). I met the General of the Colombian Army who was in office at the time of this incident. He said the basis of the movie is true, but he could not say whether or not the personal story of one of the movies characters was real. This movie contains a very poignant moral statement. The movie is in Spanish, but has subtitles.

This movie shows the animalistic side of the human experience whether you consider us "civilized" or not. Our baser instincts will triumph over our good nature when greed overcomes us. A very interesstng study in human behavior.

What could be called a Colombian attempt at Kelly's Heroes fails to engage, either as military drama or dark comedy. Derivative, with characters that walk through the film as caricatures, a premise that could have been rich with adventure and humor, even serious themes, falls far short of its potential. A yawn...

The film is good, it examines some of our most primal feelings and it does it well, it is a good watch and an entertaining one as well.
