Near-flawless greatest hits,
By Brad (CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: So Far So Good (Audio CD)
I tend to be hard on greatest hits albums. While they are very enjoyable to listen to for favorite artists, I usually have some complaint about something that should have been included or excluded. Off the top of my head, I can say on this effort that this collection could include such songs as "One Night Love Affair" (from the most popular and best Adams effort "Reckless"), "Thought I'd Died and Gone To Heaven" (in place of the sappy "Do I Have to Say The Words" from the "Waking up the Neighbors" album), or a track or two more from the very underrated "Into the Fire" album. However, all in all this collection couldn't be much better. All the big rockers and great ballads are here--in a near-perfect mixture. I like the new track--the somewhat sappy but very enjoyable "Please Forgive Me". I am especially impressed with the inclusion of "Kids Wanna Rock" as an album track that top 40 radio didn't pick up on. This is a perfect summary of why we enjoyed Bryan Adams in the first place. A strongly recommended purchase.

Great Album!,

This album is absolutely wonderful! I love it. It has Bryan's best hits: "Heaven", "Run To You", "Summer of 69", "This Time", "Cuts Like A Knife", "Somebody" and "Please Forgive Me". I'm a little disappointed that "There Will Never Be Another Tonight" and "Thought I'd Died & Gone To Heaven" weren't included on there since they were big radio singles too. But atleast all his other best hits are included, including the rare track "Heat of the Night". He is a very talented musician; he composes his own songs, sings and plays musical instruments. Saw him in concert one time and he put on an unforgettable, incredible, high-energy performance. Even though this song is not on the "Greatest Hits" CD, I just want to mention that I love the song "Let's Make A Night". It's a touchy, beautiful ballad. It came out several years later but it's awesome too. Hope Bryan releases another new album soon..since pop music has really made a big comeback, it would be great to hear him perform more songs like from his 80's and early 90's albums. I think the fans would welcome him back with open arms.

A thorough review of Bryan's best,

Only a handful of artists per decade are able to create true pop staples that stand the test of time...Bryan Adams is one of those artists, and "So Far So Good" proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt.Hooks like the ones found in "Summer of '69," "Can't Stop This Thing We Started," and "Somebody" never grow old; they're the kind of songs that can easily remind you of where you were when they were popular and still make a great soundtrack for any party or bar of present day. The same can be said for ballads like "Straight From the Heart," "Heaven," and "Everything I Do (I Do it for You)" (especially since enough time has officially passed since radio played the latter to death). The disc also contains two fan favorites that easily could have been singles: "It's Only Love," Bryan's classic duet with Tina Turner, and "Kids Wanna Rock," the quintessential Adams rocker, tailor-made for driving on a highway with the top down on a hot summer night. We're also treated to "Please Forgive Me," a new ballad exclusive to this release that holds up well next to Bryan's tried and true hits. Throughout the collection, Bryan's innate good taste in production and knack for writing classic pop tunes couldn't possibly be more evident. And his raspy, rock-n-roll-ready voice is as classic as his songs. In the end, revisiting the songs on "So Far So Good" is like visiting an old friend and laughing about old times: it's comfortable, it's familiar, and it's something you'll want to do again and again.
