Near-flawless greatest hits,
By Brad (CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: So Far So Good (Audio CD)
I tend to be hard on greatest hits albums. While they are very enjoyable to listen to for favorite artists, I usually have some complaint about something that should have been included or excluded. Off the top of my head, I can say on this effort that this collection could include such songs as "One Night Love Affair" (from the most popular and best Adams effort "Reckless"), "Thought I'd Died and Gone To Heaven" (in place of the sappy "Do I Have to Say The Words" from the "Waking up the Neighbors" album), or a track or two more from the very underrated "Into the Fire" album. However, all in all this collection couldn't be much better. All the big rockers and great ballads are here--in a near-perfect mixture. I like the new track--the somewhat sappy but very enjoyable "Please Forgive Me". I am especially impressed with the inclusion of "Kids Wanna Rock" as an album track that top 40 radio didn't pick up on. This is a perfect summary of why we enjoyed Bryan Adams in the first place. A strongly recommended purchase.

Great Album!,

This album is absolutely wonderful! I love it. It has Bryan's best hits: "Heaven", "Run To You", "Summer of 69", "This Time", "Cuts Like A Knife", "Somebody" and "Please Forgive Me". I'm a little disappointed that "There Will Never Be Another Tonight" and "Thought I'd Died & Gone To Heaven" weren't included on there since they were big radio singles too. But atleast all his other best hits are included, including the rare track "Heat of the Night". He is a very talented musician; he composes his own songs, sings and plays musical instruments. Saw him in concert one time and he put on an unforgettable, incredible, high-energy performance. Even though this song is not on the "Greatest Hits" CD, I just want to mention that I love the song "Let's Make A Night". It's a touchy, beautiful ballad. It came out several years later but it's awesome too. Hope Bryan releases another new album soon..since pop music has really made a big comeback, it would be great to hear him perform more songs like from his 80's and early 90's albums. I think the fans would welcome him back with open arms.

A thorough review of Bryan's best,
By
This review is from: So Far So Good (Audio CD)
Only a handful of artists per decade are able to create true pop staples that stand the test of time...Bryan Adams is one of those artists, and "So Far So Good" proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt.Hooks like the ones found in "Summer of '69," "Can't Stop This Thing We Started," and "Somebody" never grow old; they're the kind of songs that can easily remind you of where you were when they were popular and still make a great soundtrack for any party or bar of present day. The same can be said for ballads like "Straight From the Heart," "Heaven," and "Everything I Do (I Do it for You)" (especially since enough time has officially passed since radio played the latter to death). The disc also contains two fan favorites that easily could have been singles: "It's Only Love," Bryan's classic duet with Tina Turner, and "Kids Wanna Rock," the quintessential Adams rocker, tailor-made for driving on a highway with the top down on a hot summer night. We're also treated to "Please Forgive Me," a new ballad exclusive to this release that holds up well next to Bryan's tried and true hits. Throughout the collection, Bryan's innate good taste in production and knack for writing classic pop tunes couldn't possibly be more evident. And his raspy, rock-n-roll-ready voice is as classic as his songs. In the end, revisiting the songs on "So Far So Good" is like visiting an old friend and laughing about old times: it's comfortable, it's familiar, and it's something you'll want to do again and again.

I discovered So Far So Good when I went looking for a CD single of "Please Forgive Me" so I could play it at a party. The only copy of "Please Forgive Me" in the store, though, was to be found on So Far So Good--which was only available on cassette.I bought the tape and came to really like it. Somehow it feels like there are 20 tracks here instead of 14--you get your money's worth out of this album, even if diehard Bryan Adams fans can't find ALL the tracks they want. Eventually, I upgraded to the CD and gave my mom the tape. I've listened to the music with quite a few people, and everyone seems to enjoy singing along.

If you like Bryan Adams, you'll love this album. And, if you're not sure how you feel about Bryan, this is the album to get. It features the best of his best. All of your favorites from the 80s and 90s together on one CD."Cuts Like a Knife," "Run to You," "Heaven," "Summer of '69" - Bryan knows how to rock. There isn't a bad song in the bunch. When I'm in the need for some serious rock and roll to remind me of my younger days, this is the album I usually turn to.

My favourite artist's phenomenal collection,

Though I always cherish his "18 til I die' album better than this collection , there's something you defintely couldn't afford to miss in this album . It's the songs of his early years . BA takes you in a roller coaster with hard rock songs like "Summer of '69" , "can't stop this thing we started " , "Run to you " , there's also the soft-rock side with "Straight from the heart" , "Everyting I do ..." and ever lovely "Please forgive me " . And the track with Tina turner "It's only love" is simply irresistable . Not bcause i'm a die-hard fan of BA , but because of the quality of music , this album is a MUST have in your collection .

Gravel-Voiced Canadian's Best,
This review is from: So Far So Good (Audio CD)
I'm sure that the '05 release, "Anthology," covers more of his career, but for folks like myself who enjoyed Bryan Adams' career in the 80's and early 90's, "So Far, So Good" is probably the best compilation out there. Adams takes a lot of heat for his music and, frankly, I don't understand why. He's a very talented musician as his multiple hit songs can attest to, so I see very little room for major criticism. If you don't like him, don't listen to him.I like him and have to say that this disc is one of my favorites when I want to remember the good ol' days. The disc starts off with "Summer of '69" and then rolls right into "Straight From The Heart." From there we are treated to a nice helping of Adams' best rockers and ballads. Personal favorites include "Cuts Like A Knife," "Run To You," "Can't Stop This Thing We Started" and "Heaven. It also has "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You," which many consider the beginning of the end for Adams. He went on to release a few other soundtrack tunes and moderately popular hits like "The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me (Is You)" after the release of this hits compilation and they are included on the later "Best Of Me." Hardcore fans may want to pick up that title or the aforemetioned "Anthology." For those of us who only want the bulk of Adams' biggest tunes, stick with "So Far, So Good." It won't let you down.

Blast of Thunder Rock,

When I picked this up at the yard sale, I didn't realize this was his greatest hits package, but it's a strong blast of fond memories. Of the best tracks here, "It's Only Love" with Tina Turner on vocals is a ballsy blast of thunder rock. "Straight from the Heart" is a pretty ballad with Bob Clearmountain's production giving a sonic keyboard wash on which Bryan's vocals soar. "Run to You" has great energy and that unique churning guitar line, "She's got a heart of gold, she'd never let me down, but you're the woman who always turns me on, you keep me coming round." "Cuts Like A Knife" still creates a unique sound with its arena rock epic size. "Heat of the Night" booms cheerfully, "It's up to you, You can run or you can fight." "So Far So Good" is a good CD collection of many of Bryan's best tracks from his early years. Enjoy!

The Best Bryan Adams Disc,
By
This review is from: So Far So Good (Audio CD)
Bryan Adams has had a very successful career in mainstream rock music, and this 1993 hits package covers the first 10 years, during which time he had 2 massive-selling rock ballad #1 hits and chart-topping albums Reckless (1984) and Waking Up The Neighbours (1991). The 14 songs here are all very direct, simple statements done either as slow, extended ballads or as guitar-driven rock-n-rollers. There's nothing particularly subtle about his music, but his nostalgic rock tune Summer Of '69 remains a favourite, and I also like Heat Of The Night and the scorching affair Run To You (his first Australian chart hit). Overshadowing all his other songs is Everything I Do (I Do It For You), which is one of the most popular love songs ever. It expresses the sort of everlasting romantic love that appeals to just about everyone.Since 1993's Please Forgive Me (included here), another chart-topping love ballad, Bryan Adams has recorded lots more songs, and has a second (single-disc) hits album (Best Of Me) that has a similar but somewhat less-classic tracklisting. So, at least for now until A&M put out a 2CD set, this is the one to get.

The Best Of Bryan Adams?,
By Greg McDowell (Tacoma,WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: So Far So Good (Audio CD)
The music of Bryan Adams brings back some extremely pleasurable memories of the `80s for me, but this colletion falls far short of its claim! Where are "Lonely Nights," "Tonight," "The Only One"? And wy reprise 3 tracks off the already played-to-death "Reckless"? Including cuts like "The Best Was Yet To Come" or "What's Gonna Be?" would have made more sense. And only 1 TRACK from "Into The Fire'? Why wasn't "Hearts On Fire" put on here?! Any single release thas has "Summer Of '69 and "Cuts Like A Knife" in 1 place can't be a total washout, but this CD could ave been so much more!
