Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Reba is the Oprah of country music. Both have built their careers into empires by embodying the concerns, hopes, and desires of the average (whoever she is) American woman. So Good Together ranks with the country veteran's most consistently satisfying releases, confirming that she remains very much in touch with her core audience. Whether she's addressing the bittersweet end of a marriage ("Back Before the War"), commiserating over hot-button parental dilemmas ("What Do You Say"), or wondering how a relationship that seems so right can feel so wrong ("I'm Not Your Girl"), her down-home phrasing has the transparent intimacy of a heart-to-heart chat. She continues to stretch herself artistically as well, teaming with the popular Brazilian duo of Jose y Durval for a bilingual finale of Boz Scaggs's "We're All Alone." --Don McLeese

4.0 out of 5 stars "I'll Be" A Fan Of Reba Forever December 1, 1999
Format:Audio CD
I am not a big fan of country music. So when I purchased Reba's latest album "So Good Together", I didn't know what to expect. Yet, after listening to the CD, I must say my thoughts on Country music have change. Reba shines on most of the songs, with her unmistakable voice leading the way. Key songs include the top ten smash "What Do You Say" which is an empathic tale of parenting. It's video is truly heartbreaking. Reba delivers an emotional performance that will force you to bring out the Kleenex. On "I'm Not Your Girl" (co-written by the great Shelly Peiken), the message is simple, and Reba sings exactly that way. The simplicity of Reba's voice on this song makes the message of the song that much more apparent. However, the albums best song is "I'll Be". Written by the Decade's greatest and most prolific songwriter Diane Warren, the song is quite reminiscent of another country hit two years ago "How Do I Live". Warren uses very sentimental lyrics and puts them to a memorable melody. Reba shines on this song, feeding off the touching theme of the song and interpreting it into her voice. The production is just right, grand but not over the top, allowing Reba's voice to shine and not those sometimes aggravating strings that tend to shy listeners away. This song certainly has tremendous potential to hit the top of the country charts and once again establish Reba as a powerhouse at country radio. Overall, each song is carefully crafted to show different sides of Reba and although all the songs may not be as monumental as "I'll Be", this is certainly a record that fans of Reba will gobble up and those who are not big fans of Reba should at least give a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD December 7, 1999
By Luke
Format:Audio CD
This is one of Reba's best CD's. It quickly became my second favorite after "Starting Over" and it keeps growing on me every time I listen to it. The best song on the CD is "Til I Said it To You". This song brings out my favorite part of Reba. Reba has developed this CD to reach the hearts of her fans and once you listen to it you will understand what I mean. Both "What Do You Say"and "Nobody Dies From "We're All Alone"is a wonderful. However, it would be better if the duet had been sung completely in English. There is something about not knowing what the other singers are saying that lessons the song when compared to the other songs on the CD. Overall the CD is superb, and if you like Reba and great country music you should buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW - Reba Fans have been waiting for this one! November 23, 1999
Format:Audio CD
I've only listened to the FIRST FOUR TRACKS (2 of which I had already heard before in concert) and I can already tell this is possibly Reba's best album ever! It's certainly the best of her last three albums, which didn't live up to the incredible awesome "Read My Mind". I've been waiting on this one for a while. I'm in Reba bliss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reba and fans are "SO GOOD TOGETHER" December 16, 1999
Format:Audio CD
The undisputed "Queen of Country Music" has done it again. With her 27th album, Reba McEntire raises her musical standards to a higher level-- one that no other act in Nashville has achieved this year. The album gets off to a frisky start with the title track, "SO GOOD TOGETHER". This song reminds me of the fun Reba brought to her crossover hit of 1996, "YOU KEEP ME HANGIN' ON", but with more of a country kick to it. The album takes listeners on a roller coaster of emotion and heartbreak. From the sadness of the first single, "WHAT DO YOU SAY" and "ROSES" to songs of love and happiness, "I'LL BE" (which very easily could be the wedding song of 2000) and "'TIL I SAID IT TO YOU". The album is full of future country smashes and a couple of possible adult contemporary crossover hits. Reba reminds fans that she can still bring tears to your eyes. "ROSES" is the saddest and one of the best song she has recorded in many years. This album is a prime example of why Reba is the best selling country female artist of the 20th century. Buy it today!

4.0 out of 5 stars As good as you'd expect! November 24, 1999
Format:Audio CD
I've been a Reba fan for 13 years now, not easy when you're in the UK and her stuff is as rare as hen's teeth. The last few years have been much better, and I've amassed a collection of 25 albums. So where does this new release fall? Well, it's no 'For My Broken Heart', but it's pretty good regardless. Reba has one of those expressive voices that would sound insightful and moving on a rendition of 'Old MacDonald Had A farm'. Thankfully the songs here are a little more mature than that. She's also (for better or worse - you decide) almost completely disregarded her country origins. Gone are the 'lordy lordy' declarations of 'I don't need nothin' you ain't got' (grammar? syntax?). In fact, but for the inclusion of Roses, old fashioned country at its steel-guitar drenched best, this could be a Celine Dion album, although without the excessive histrionics. The best tracks here are current single 'What Do You Say', which is so strong you can forgive its crocodile tears and mawkishly sentimental ending and the stunning 'I'm Not Your Girl'. Here Reba demonstrates the lesser-known skill of restraint. The lyrics are touching, the tune catchy and the delivery absolutely perfect. 'She wasn't Good Enough For Him' is a quintessential '90s Reba, and 'Nobody Dies From A Broken Heart' could be the sequel to 'Everything That You Want' from the Read My Mind album. On the downside, the title track can't seem to decide on a rhythm or a tune and so it throws itself all over the place and gets nowhere. Furthermore, some of the songs here seem to be reiterating sentiments we've heard before. But hey, with a voice like that, recordings of such consistent quality after 23 years in the business can only testify to Reba's supremacy in modern country music. Read more ›
