3.0 out of 5 stars They're called THE ROLLING STONES!!!!
I'm dumbfounded at how many people posting reviews here are pleading for Lisa Fischer to reappear and thinking that she dropped off the face of the earth after this album. She's been touring the world for the last 10 years with a rock n' blues band known as ... THE ROLLING STONES!!!! Tune in to halftime of the next Super Bowl and you'll "discover" what happened to her...

5.0 out of 5 stars "so intense" is an understatement., October 27, 1998
This review is from: So Intense (Audio CD)
lisa fischer, former back-up singer of luther vandross, was the "discovery" of 1991. her debut album, _so intense_, lived up to its title in every respect. fischer delivers power-packed vocals on such songs as "save me" and "send the message of love". songs like "get back to love" and "some girls" take a more mellow path, but fischer's exceptional delivery make them some of the best songs of 1991. "how can i ease the pain"-cowritten by fischer and narada michael walden-is an excellent example of a perfect song; lyrically strong and vocally challenging, fischer soars over high notes with unparalleled ease. similarly, fischer's rendition of "wildflower" expresses an insight into the pain of childhood that artists such as cheryl "pepsii" riley ("stephanie") and mikki howard ("at seventeen") have since endeavored to recreate. perhaps the only thing lacking with _so intense_ is a follow-up. since her appearance seven years ago, fans have been denied her wonderful gifts, save a handfull of special appearances and background gigs. lisa, where are you? we miss you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Why she didn't take off is beyond me?, November 2, 2002
This review is from: So Intense (Audio CD)
Like most of the reviewers here, I, too, feel as thou Luther's background singer deserves much more attention that she garnered upon the release of this album in 1991. It is incomprehensible that the voice behind "How Can I Ease the Pain" (the one monster HIT single) has been absent from the forefront of which she is worthy. Not only is "Pain" a dynamic track, but the album is filled with such INTENSITY that one's CD player may just hurt itself.

Fischer, like the late Phyllis Hyman, is one of those DIVAS of which that title is justified.

5.0 out of 5 stars The VOICE, April 21, 2001
By
KEVIN HAYDEN (MILLBURY, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: So Intense (Audio CD)
Lisa Fischer has one of the most amazing voices in music. It is a down rigt shame that she does not have more releases out there. Her voice is so beautiful and so unique that you'd think she'd be an international phenom. One listen here and you'll think so too. Let's dicuss the voice. It is such an instrument in its own right. She has the scorching power of Patti LaBelle, the glass shattering range of Mariah, the crystal clarity of Roberta Flack, the rich velvety warmth of Whitney YET, Lisa is her own singer, her own artist. Check out the Grammy award winning "How Can I Ease the Pain?" If you're standing, you'll have to sit down. It is one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard. It gives me such chills. Check out "Save Me"...a slammin dance masterpiece. Then you have the R&B mid tempos numbers like "So Intense" and "Some Girls" They're so airy and beautiful. They're unheard classics. "Wildflower" is just pure art with a spoken intro and a building vocal that soars to no end!! Then there's the unique ballad "Last Goodbye" It is hauntingly beautiful. Lisa sings with all her heart. The sound just booms out of her. Her range is amazing. Her upper octaves are so clear and full, unlike that of Mariah. Her delicate soft voice is heavenly. This album is for fans of truly gifted vocalists. It's a must have. I wish Lisa will grace us with a new collection soon!! It's been too long!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Put, Intense., September 18, 2005
By
Areatha Flowers (Niagara Falls, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: So Intense (Audio CD)
I've heard Beyonce, Mariah and all these 'Divas' churning out music and it does nothing for me. The other night, "How Can I Ease the Pain" came on the car stereo and I had to pull over. Tears start flowing, no joke. When I got home, I immediately looked up my CD for this lady and sat there with wide wonder. Her effortless extremely high "G" when she sings " or nothing at all" causes a Baptist moment every time. It make Beyonce's and Mariah's vocal acrobatics seem almost amatuerish. If ever there was a somebody who NEEDED to get back to the studio, Lisa Fischer is it!

Now that Luther is gone, I have found myself playing the CDs where her magnificent voice was assisting him to greatness. I cannot find a single flaw on "So Intense". "Wildflower" is one of my favorite songs ever. The two previous versions I am familiar with always put the love pain in my heart. She takes her version to another level. Voices like hers ought not to be sitting somewhere unused and unheard. Though it may be almost 15 years later, some intrepid producer out there needs to get this woman IMMEDIATELY to a studio even if it is to record the phonebook!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars So Intense was so soulful, January 12, 2004
This review is from: So Intense (Audio CD)
I have to ask this... why did Mariah Carey's career soar with her "whisper register" and Lisa's (who range was actually higher and stronger) didn't? One could argue that Lisa's company didn't market her correctly. One could also argue that Lisa's material was more soulful and more R&B. Another one could argue that she didn't fit the description of an international diva. Whatever the case, the fact that her career didn't take off is WRONG!! It seems in the early 90s, we picked the wrong artists to support. Not we are stuck with Britney Spears and Beyonce Knowles who would be shamed if Lisa ever took the stage against them. Sad! This cd is awesome and soulful. Nothing else needs to be said.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best female vocalists ever!!!!, July 8, 2005
This review is from: So Intense (Audio CD)
Ms. Fischer is by far one the best female vocalists I've ever heard. Her range is absolutely amazing!! When I first heard her first single in 1991, I immediately wanted to know who was singing and bought the entire CD as soon as it was available. I was truly disappointed that she never released other CDs because I was so looking forward to it. It's rare that you hear a voice that captures you and you want to hear more and more. I had the true pleasure of seeing Ms. Fischer perform live numerous times when she sang with the late Luther Vandross, and her performance can't even be described! Even after the release of her CD, she still toured with Mr. Vandross and he said he was going to allow her to take the stage...and take it she did!! It's sad that you have true, natural talent such as hers and it doesn't flourish in comparison to the lame (sorry to say it) vocals of others who are considered Divas such as Brittney Spears, Beyonce Knowles. They fail in comparison to Ms. Fischer's flawless talent. Although I'm a fan of the entire CD, my favorites are "How Can I Ease The Pain", "Last Goodbye", Wildflower", and "So Intense". I bought Norman Connors CD just to obtan her remake of "Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time?" MS. FISCHER IF YOU READ THIS...COME BACK ON THE SCENE AND SHOW THESE WANNA BE'S HOW SINGING IS TRULY DONE EFFORTLESSLY AND WITH CLASS AND SOPHISTICATION. YOU DEFINITELY WILL BE SUPPORTED!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lisa Fischer, March 19, 2002
This review is from: So Intense (Audio CD)
Lisa Fischer has one of the best, most emotive singing voices I have ever heard, she makes the talentless so-called diva's of current popular music sound like amatures in comparison. It is a real shame her record label has not promoted her more successfully, as I had never heard of her and I'm sure I'm not alone. If any singer deserves a great career it is Lisa Fischer.

5.0 out of 5 stars time for another cd from lisa, April 25, 2000
This review is from: So Intense (Audio CD)
As solo artist Lisa is nearly unknown in Italy, plus last italian Stones concert has been cancelled... I rate this cd 5 stars, I am not susprised at all since I have seen her singing many times with the Stones and recently (great Lisa and great gig) with Norman Connors. Besides "How can I ease the pain" may fav. track is "Save me", also "Some girls" is wonderful. CHuck Leavell's What's in that bag" is a tasty album, rich of lovely interpreted traditional songs where Lisa just sings on one track. Have a listen! TO enjoy another side of Lisa I recommend "Nuyorican Soul" and Luther Vandross' "Night I fell in Love". THrough rating "S.I." 5 stars and through ignoring the artist's plans and commitments, I reckon it's time for something completely different: a reggae-rock&roll cd.She'd have no competitors at all (believe me, I know southern europe taste).

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Soulful, July 10, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: So Intense (Audio CD)
every since i saw lisa fischer sing "serching" on the luther vandross dvd live in wembley over 15 years ago i loved here vocal abilities truly she could teach todays r&b artists how it is done. my favorite tracks on the album are the wildflower remake which was first made famous by the ojays, and how can i ease the pain. for an artist who sang backup for luther vandross and other artists to emerge on here own with a hit record and a grammy award i think that if she returned to the studio she will be well recieved. i think that her vocal abilities are equivilant to that of patti, chaka, aretha, and other popular soul divas who paved the way.
