5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Blues Power
Here is some of the most perfect blues guitar playing you will ever hear. There's even a smokin' version of Kenny Burrell's Chitlins Con Carne. You can hear the warmth & slight crackle of the tubes in Otis'amp. Tone to the bone. Majestic vibrato. Spine tingling singing. Otis' only living equal in this music (that I can think of right now) is Buddy Guy. I have...

3.0 out of 5 stars Must have, but....
I have looked for this cd for years, and finally have it in my collection. All Your Love is one of my fav blues tunes. BUT... Otis does not have the most perfect timing.... Check out his turn arounds... The recording also has feedback on his guitar - not the good kind of feedback... Yes, I really like Otis and have many of his recordings. His studio recordings are...

Highest recommendation to this one, Right Place, Wrong Time, and Cold Day in Hell (if it's still in print, I'm not sure). Blues Power.

This is one of the most Raw in your face Blues recordings I have ever heard! Otis sings with deep conviction and plays with a passion and makes every note count! The crowd is very enthusiastic and this adds to the excitement! One of my all time favorites at The Crazy Coyote Blues Power Show at 1490 KOTY AM (1490koty.com) Yakima Nation Reservation station in southcentral Washington state.

Otis Rush is the most talented bluesman around and he proves it in this set recorded in Japan in 1975. The opening instrumental is an overwhelming guitar performance, perhaps his best ever. Then he trumps B.B. King's great performance 'Everyday I Have the Blues' with a version that soars and stays funky at the same time. A chilling 'All Your Love' is followed by playing and singing on 'So Many Roads' that is blues at its deepest.

For those beginners on blues scenery,Delmark Records was the first Modern Blues Record, with the hard work of Bob Koester, with his passion by the music, specially Jazz & Blues! Koester knows like no other,to pick up pieces of historical moments of the blues, and turn it to cds recorded with great emotional feelings! This one of Ottis Rush is a "Live" performance on a 1975 tour at Japan, where Ottis tasted all of his enormous prestige with the japanese bluesfans. At that moment,Jimmy Johnson performed at his side,a great contribution to this album. I'd liked "I can't quit you baby" and "All your love". Definitely a great performance of a real bluesman!

5.0 out of 5 stars Otis Rush is the Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, April 21, 2001
This review is from: So Many Roads: Live in Concert (Audio CD)
Otis Rush is just sometimes with me another dimension. Otis has influenced every major Blues artist playing guitar since the 60's. This is easily one of his best listening Cd's with the performance and selection of songs here. He is one of the VERY few who are still alive from the 50's cutting edge consisting of Otis,Freddie King,Magic Sam,Luther Allison,Buddy Guy and Eddy Clearwater of the West Side Chicago sound. He is in Japan here where some of his best performances have been recorded. He is scheduled to go back to Japan to tour in May 2001. Hopefully someone will have the foresight to record him on audio and video. I rank this CD in my Top Ten of alltime Blues CD's. Its a must for any lover of the blues!

5.0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 stars. You can't go wrong, really, March 22, 2009
This review is from: So Many Roads: Live in Concert (Audio CD)
There is an amazing plethora of live Otis Rush out there, especially considering how relatively little he recorded, but you won't hear me complain.

All of Otis Rush's live albums are good, some are great, and a two or three of them are absolutely stellar. I'm not sure whether to put this one in the latter category, or just below "Live in Europe" and "Otis Rush Live and in Concert" by a fraction. The drums are too muffled and too low in the mix for my taste, especially compared to the above-mentioned albums, and the rest of the band (except for Rush himself) gets short-changed, too, unfortunately.
But the music itself is terrific for sure. The 58-minute set opens with a supremely tasteful rendition of the instrumental "Will My Woman Be Home Tonight (AKA Blue Guitar)", and these covers of R.G. Ford's "Crosscut Saw", Memphis Slim's "Every Day I Have The Blues", and T-Bone Walker's "Mean Old World" are white-hot without ever resorting to meaningless shredding or showyness. Rush peels off one powerful, sizzling solo after another, tight and focused, but always fresh, never stagnant or predictable.

Otis Rush is backed by a tight three-piece combo (bass, drums, second guitar), and his strong, expressive tenor voice hits full flight on songs like his own masterpieces "All Your Love (I Miss Loving)" and "Three Times A Fool", and the Willie Dixon-penned R&B hit single "I Can't Quit You Baby". Everything is piping hot, and Rush constantly builds up intensity until his smouldering, string-bending solos explode in a crescendo of feedback and crashing power chords.

This is a terrific showcase for the great Otis Rush in his prime, Chicago's West Side blues king par excellence, and fans will not want to miss it, muffled drum sound and all. Rush himself burns through all the way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Live Blues Album, March 30, 2007
By
This review is from: So Many Roads: Live in Concert (Audio CD)
Otis Rush is one of those great blues artists whose guitar playing is matched only by his great voice.

This CD is taken from live perfomances in Japan from 1975. The crowd was obviously into the music, and Otis delivers on cuts such as Chitlins Con Carne, Crosscut Saw, Mean Old World, and the title cut, which isn't as haunting here as it was on the original studio recording, but great nonetheless.

This a great CD to have in your collection, and Otis Rush is a blues player that deserves his legendary status among the greatest blues guitarists ever recorded.

This album is a must have for fans of blues guitar, or just great blues music. Otis Rush is a force to reckoned with on this album, his guitar is alive in his hands and sings, squeals and grunts at times. His singing is powerful, and always tasteful.
Right from the opening track his 'blue guitar' hits the mark and never waivers. All Your Love is well done, and I also loved that he did a version of Kenny Burrell's Chitlin's Con Carne !!! very cool !
Otis Rush is awesome and certainly lives up to his nick-name as 'King of Singing String.'

5.0 out of 5 stars superlative live blues guitar!!!, May 7, 2008
This review is from: So Many Roads: Live in Concert (Audio CD)
for live blues guitar, this album pretty much is right at the top. from superlative versions of "everyday i have the blues", albert king's "crosscut saw", a bluesy version of kenny burrel's "chitlins con carne" and his own "all your lovin" and "i can't quit you babe" - this is pretty much the apex of live electric blues. the music can be considered "in your face" but still very melodic and tasty. and if otis really used the fender jaguar in the show as shown in the album cover, his vibrato is nothing short of amazing considering that the sustain on the jaguar is almost non-existant!
