Probably THE Ian & Sylvia to get if you get just one,
By
This review is from: So Much for Dreaming (Audio CD)
This is probably the most coherent & polished of the I&S records, from a great cover of Circle Game to the wonderfully mournful Wild Geese I&S take you back to places you thought you had lost a long time ago. I have used Summer Wages for everything from teaching statistics to driving a boat up Fundy & it is still a great tune. If you like straight-from-the-heart folk with lyrics that you won't be embarrassed by later, get this album.

Their Last Great Album,
By Walter E. Hall (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: So Much for Dreaming (Audio CD)
Ian and Sylvia had a nice career singing folk music and some of their own songs. So Much For Dreaming includes two of Ian Tyson's greatest songs, Wild Geese and Summer Wages. The former is a pastoral lament, simple and elemental. The latter is an extraordinarily personal elegy to the past which evokes both the pain and joy of remembered youth. The rest of the set doesn't rise to this level of greatness, but is enjoyable nonetheless.

This is One Of Their Best,
This review is from: So Much for Dreaming (Audio CD)
This collection is one of their best. Recommended.
One afternoon in the dorm at college I invited a certain young lady up to my room to "listen to opera"..."and bring some of your favorite records too!" I said. We listened to some opera arias. On one a tenor hit a high "C" and I said alittle arrogantly, "See, your folksingers can't do that!". The young lady replied, "Well, I don't care. I like my folksingers just as much if not more than your opera arias!" She then put on this Ian and Sylvia record. After one or two songs I was hooked! I realized that they were wonderful! And so will you in case they are new to you. I know you'll enjoy this CD. Email: boland7214@aol.
