5.0 out of 5 stars this book was very informing.
This was a very serious book and if I were to rate this book from 1 to 5 I would have to give it a 5 because of the way th author wrote this book.

So Much to Live For

By Lurlene McDaniel

Everybody loves summer camp right? A place to meet new friends and do fun activities. But have you ever thought about going to a camp where everyone has cancer, is sick, has no hair, missing a body part, or thinking that this might be the last time they get to have fun?

4.0 out of 5 stars So much to live for review, October 19, 2000

I like this book because its about a girl who got Leukemia when she was my age. The girl in the books name is Dawn. She is a very special person because shes nice to almost everyone. One thing i liked about the book was the friendships. Dawn met a girl named Marlee who is about 13 yrs. old at Cancer Camp when Dawn was a counsler. Marlee was really mean to Dawn because she felt sorry for herself. Dawn had a very good heart though, when Marlee got sick and was in the hospital Dawn would visit her every day. Marlee and Dawn became very close to each other. Thats another thing about the book, its very sad because Dawn had friends who didnt have Cancer, and they didnt understand her and when she would get really close to someone who did have Cancer and understood her, they would always get sick and die. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the other books before this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, June 9, 2002
A Kid's Review
I thoroughly enjoyed I want to live. I could really relate to Dawn, having a sister who has acute lymphocytic leukemia. I have seen and made friends with many people like Dawn and I have found their thoughts and feelings to be similar to those in the book. McDaniel's plot is exceptional and I found the book to be very heart-touching. Keep 'em coming, Lurlene McDaniel!

Everybody loves summer camp right? A place to meet new friends and do fun activities. But have you ever thought about going to a camp where everyone has cancer, is sick, has no hair, missing a body part, or thinking that this might be the last time they get to have fun?

Dawn Rochelle has suffered cancer until she was thirteen when her brother gave her his bone marrow. No one knows the battle better than she does. That's why Dawn agrees to be a camp consoler at the cancer camp for a month. She had been to the camp a couple of summers when she had her cancer. That's where she met her best friend Sandy, but now Sandy is gone. And it's hard for Dawn to relive all the old memories at the camp, so if Dawn is sad, how is she going to be able to help the girls? At the camp, she meets a boy who really likes Dawn, and finds out really who he is, so will Dawn fall for him? She also finds out that not all the girls are as nice as she thought they would be. One who is Marlee. Marlee is a mean girl who is self-conscious about herself, and doesn't want to have fun. Can Dawn help Marlee change or will she ignore her when Marlee really does need her help? Read this book So Much to Live for, by Lurlene McDaniel to find out!

I really got into this book. It's an emotional book, with lots of surprises. It made me realize that I'm a really lucky person. It tells that you should treat others the way you would want o be treated back. I recommend this book to pre-teen girls.

I don't know if it's the way Lurlene McDaniel writes or not but it's really difficult to read the Dawn Rochelle series. The plot is great but as soon as you get interested in seeing what the charactors have to say the word cancer pops up. There must be at least thirty times the word was used in the first couple chapters alone. Nobody with a longterm disease talks about it every five minutes unless they were newly diagnosed and need to get used to having it. Dawn had it and is in remisson when this book starts so the author should really have given the word a rest unless it actually carried the plot along. With the counselers talking to each other and the word doing absolutely nothing to speed the plot along the whole book is laughable.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites, April 30, 2003

I read this book first, but didn't realize it was part of a series. This one's my favorite, because the characters are all so fun. It really made me cry though, because I loved all the characters, and at the end, when one of the (I don't wanna ruin it) died, I cried - which I never do in books. Basically, Dawn Rochelle goes to a camp for kids with cancer, as a counsuler this year though, and meets a bunch of great kids with cancer. One kid in particular (I believe her name is Marley, but I haven't read the book in a while, so if I'm wrong, I'm sorry) has a major attitude problem, and Dawn cannot stand her. Finally, after trying to get along with her, Dawn finds out why. This books is great, is all I can say! You have to read it if you like Lurlene McDaniel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, May 8, 2002
I read this series for the first time when i was about 10. I think my mom read them to me actually. Since then I have read the entire series at least once a year!

There are five books in the series: "Six Months to Live," "I Want to Live," So Much to Live for," "No Time to Cry," and a new one called "To Live Again."

These books depict a young woman, Dawn Rochelle, who battles lukemia, and loves and loses some good friends along the way.

It is pretty realistic and very touching. As a teen with a chronic illness, I can totally relate to many of Dawn's experiences, but even if you have never stepped foot in a hospital the "Six Months to Live" series will give you a look into the life of someone with an illness, and i guarantee it will leave you with a new appreication for life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great teen book, August 7, 2001
By A Customer
When I ordered this book I was sure that I would like it because I had read the first one. I loved this book, I couldn't put it down. I let two of my friends read it and they loved it. I would recomend this book to anyone who loves a good cry, and/or just a good book. I liked it because it showed that she was just an ordinary teenager at heart. God bless
