5.0 out of 5 stars Bravo,"O Bruxo" !, April 4, 2000
This review is from: So Nao Toca Quem Nao Quer (Audio CD)
IT IS VERY FORTUNATE THAT ,with most of HERMETO'S work sadly out of print, this SPARKLING diamond is still avaliable! for me, this is Hermeto's most fully realized recording. The full compliment of his GENIUS is availed to the listener in this recording, from his wonderful "novo" chorinho, "Intocavel" to the beautifully arranged "Cancao da Tarde" ,Hermeto's cd overflows w/ all of the musical watercolors he controls on his "pallette"--- Baiao, Frevo, Maracatu, Jazz ,Avante-guard,.....all filtered thru Hermeto's joyfully MAD musical genius concept QUE MARAVILHA---- "In Portuguese, his nicknames translate as either "the Champion" or "the Sorcerer", one listen & you of course will understand! The world's "greatest living composer" seems destined for glory only after he passes on, let's give some to Seu Hermeto NOW! Music for the head, but "Candango" will make you DANCE too! BUY, and TELL YOUR FRIENDS! haha! Not enough "stars" avaliable to rate this ! (e nao gosto disso! ) Peppino

Dihelson Mendonca (Crato, CEARA Brazil) - See all my reviews
This review is from: So Nao Toca Quem Nao Quer (Audio CD)
"So nao toca quem nao quer" is only the tip of the Iceberg from one of the trully greatest Genius of 20th Century, Hermeto Pascoal, a very sensitive person, a man which was born on a remote location of Brazil, in the 30s, where he hadn't even a radio, nor electricity nearby. The most part of his work were not recorded yet. He learnt the transversal flute secrets in less than a month, and learned electric bass reasonably on a few hours (He needed to play that night). He has no musical label. His music is deep, few people can understand. When a child, he used to throw a piece of iron against a rock and reproduce all it's sound on a little accordeon. I've seen the most dazzling things from him, like entire pieces where he harmonizes human voices speaking (search for the album: "Lagoa da Canoa, municipio de arapiraca" , and on TV, and listen to him playing the song "Brasileirinho" on his "mustache". He can play almost all musical instruments, and even transform kitchen tools and all things imaginable into them (He's got Perfect Pitch also) It's a pity we can't find many recordings from Hermeto. He composes every day, even for big orchestras. Search for the CD "Hermeto Pascoal in Montreux", it's excellent. The other one: "Elis Regina in montreux" where Hermeto is a guest is excelent also. I didn't meet Mozart, but, I knew Hermeto, and I doubt Mozart could be a greater Genius of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wizard of Brazilian instrumental music, November 5, 1998
This review is from: So Nao Toca Quem Nao Quer (Audio CD)
"So Nao Toca Quem Nao Quer" (1987) was another brilliant album by the genius of Brazilian music. It's longer than any of his other studio album, which means there is even more catchy melodies than usual. Special guests are this time a.o. accordeonist Dominguinhos, guitarist Raphael Rabello and bassist Arismar do Espirito Santo. Group efforts are sandwitched by piano - vocal duets. Included is also choir that consists apparently of bandmembers relatives and friends. I think this was originally a 2-LP set, which was released by instrumental music label from Sao Paolo called Som da Gente.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hermeto gets accessibility, keeps edge, July 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: So Nao Toca Quem Nao Quer (Audio CD)
On this album, Hermeto allows himself to be melodious, but also stays true to his quirky self. This makes a gret introduction to the Zappa of Brazil, at least the classical-jazzy side of Frank.

5.0 out of 5 stars A place no man has been before..., July 27, 2000

This review is from: So Nao Toca Quem Nao Quer (Audio CD)
This is just another example of unique and exciting creations from the soul of this master musician. One minute he brings you into the village with traditional folk-like songs, then suddenly you are taken on a tour to some harmonically theatrical planet where you surrender to a groove that only Hermeto can create with his genius rhythms.

5.0 out of 5 stars This music comes direct from the heart, March 5, 1999

This music comes direct from the heart. Hermeto has been considered one of the best jazz musicians alive (and a truly generous person, a kind of talent rare nowadays, freely standing far from show business and pop/commercial issues).

5.0 out of 5 stars The Music Of The Future, November 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: So Nao Toca Quem Nao Quer (Audio CD)
One more release of Hermeto Pascoal, the genial brazilian multi-instrumentist and composer. The tracks in this CD shows his excelent group in excellent performances, with impressive and wonderful melodies. It's the "Universal Music", as he describes his own music, but I think it's the Music of the Future...

This guy is simply one the best instrumentist and composer I have ever heard. His music is extremely sincere, honest .This is my first Hermeto album and I just finish listening to this record. Now I can understand why guys like Pat Metheny,Lye Mays,Gil Evans and so on love his music.Even Miles have recorded two of his songs.A friend of mine have played with him and he told me that Hermeto can trully play almost every instrument very well...I hope he comes soon to Florida to perform. As a summary, BUY THIS ALBUM!!!
