Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
In the market for a single album consolidating most of the selling points of mainstream female teen- and dance-pop of the past few years? Try Mandy Moore's So Real. Various cuts here demonstrate her (and her writing and production teams') mastery of the styles of Britney Spears, the Spice Girls, Janet Jackson, and early Madonna. While projecting a playful sultriness much like that of Spears, the younger Moore takes pains to keep things chaste: not only does she promote "trust" on "What You Want," she rhymes it with "crush," not "lust." Complete with a hook that defies interpretation ("I'm missin' you like candy") on the breakthrough single "Candy," and a can't-miss Janet-style ballad in "Walk Me Home," So Real adds a welcome note of CD-length consistency to the current girl-pop formula. --Rickey Wright

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC ALBUM....FANTASTIC SONGS, December 27, 1999
By Piper (SOUTH FLA.) - See all my reviews
All I have to say is this-- Mandy Moore--So Real--So Good. Really, I ain't joking. I really don't know what the deal is with this Spears chick, but I'm telling you, Mandy is NOTHING at all like her. Her songs are more meaningful, upbeat and...good. She has songs that will keep you humming to the tune for days. (Trust me) I'm going to be honest to all you music-lovers, out of all the eleven songs I heard, I liked...all of THEM. Finally, an album where I enjoy listening to all the songs in the track. Now, of course, I'm a person that enjoys listening to pop. Please, don't buy this cd if you like listening to Korn or Hole, or something like that. It's just not for you. I have absolutely no regrets buying this cd. It's the best. And you're talking to an experienced person here. So go on and buy the album, and try it and see. Really. Go do it. Now.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Defineatly Could Be What You Want ('Scuse the Pun!), March 16, 2000
By K. Meyers "moonunit01" (IL United States) - See all my reviews
I have to admit, when I first got this cd I was not so thrilled with the tracks and the singing. It was different than other things I'd heard, like Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera. But that's what makes it better than their cds: It's different. Mandy does seem to follow with the other girl trends, but it looks like she's started her own path. Her songs are fun, not too serious, and innocent. Nothing naughty here.

It takes a while to warm up to it, but I've listened to it and listened to it and it just gets better and better every time.

Go Mandy! You've got the right idea! This cd is perfect for anyone who loves pop. You don't have to love Britney to get into Mandy Moore. :o)

1.0 out of 5 stars AHHH! Stop the Madness!, March 20, 2000
By PHYLLIS A MARTINEZ (BRECKENRIDGE, CO USA) - See all my reviews
What happened to music these days? It is mind-boggling how an untalented creation of record companies can become a star (if you want to call her that). Nobody can honestly tell me they think she has a great voice. Maybe she can sing OK for a 15 year old, but that is why 15 year olds don't sing professionally! To me Mandy is a puppet controlled by her managers or whatever, and she could never ever be a real strong female performer. I hope she goes away soon...for the sake of the music industry!
