Why do people even read books anymore? Most people would rather go to the movies and sit back to be entertained. Doesn't take much imagination to do that. I have to say that this book made my already overactive imagination go into overdrive. Every page I read was played out in my head as if I were there with Jacob himself. I really expected the end of the book to be like all the other books I have read in the past - like a package with a pretty red bow tied to it, with everything neatly wrapped up. Instead, the ending was pretty intense for me and it left me stomping my feet and wanting MORE!!!

This book serves as a new edition to American classic literature. Stuck in a dead end town in rural Texas, an adolescent discovers the beauty of life, albeit in some very unusual ways. Imagine a modern day Catcher in the Rye sprinkled with a psychedelic experience or two, and you'll have some idea where this novel will take you. A must read!

I loved reading this book. It felt as if each word was in just the right place at the right time. I kept thinking that not only was the story interesting and unusual but the writing was fantastic. I felt more intelligent for having read it and also felt that I had been inside someone unusual's head. Some people have described this book as dark and yet to me it was just as it needed to be. Dark...maybe..perfect...definitely!

So Shall We Pass by Michael Barrera is a dark and chilling tale about a young man named Jacob who has lost his grip of reality and lives a tortured life among his demented thoughts. Mr. Barrera gives us a glimpse of how hopeless life can be when growing up isolated from peers while living with mental illness. The book is quickly paced, intriguing, philosophical, and keeps the reader yearning for more.
