4.0 out of 5 stars Mozez: So Still (Apace Music)
Feelings can work a bit against you. One day, you can feel happy, and you will listen to a depressing album and be disappointed. To listen to Mozez, your heart and your ears have to have the time. I bet you guys didn't see coming that there is another Zero 7 alumni creating a book of poetries on a CD for us, too. (Don't worry. Sophie Barker's album Earthbound will be...

3.0 out of 5 stars Very smooth!
I bought this album after a friend recommended it to me when he got back from London. He knows I like world music for practicing my yoga. The problem with this album is that it doesn't really fade into the background like some other new age type songs. Sophie Barker's album Earthbound will be released in the States soon...I hope.)

What you should expect from So Still is an album of warm soulful songs that you could say have been left over from Zero 7 work, but had too much of a beauty itself to be accompanied with an electronic orchestra, MIDI or reality. What I am listening to is music in which distances away from what he had done with Zero 7, the act of putting that church-tested voice into a nicer use. The music is really not to play tea, but a soul-stricken record of its kind that hasn't been made since Al Green stopped creating records.

"Feel Free" sounds like nothing anyone, including the former band, has done. "Baby Blue" definitely showcases a mind so very troubled and troubling for the listener. Now knowing Mozez thus far, the music will be either depressing or thought-provoking to the soul (the illuminating "Somehow Now" or the alleged-choir-cycling "Fuzz") and there is also a semi-romantic song "Stay Beautiful" for those who've been good, it is for that reason the album is worth the purchase. Some of the songs will just be simply draining in attention ("Venus Rise"). Why it is all good is because the album can be like a journal of a mentally and emotionally caged bird. Otherwise, Zero 7 fans may be a little disappointed.

I had never heard of Mozez or Zero 7, so this was an unexpected treat. I was just browsing AOL's cd listening selections and came across this album. Have listened to it a few times online - it's very nice - I plan on purchasing a copy. I'd place it somewhere between Maxwell's Embrya album and Seal's latest record. Love the production, the presentation and Mozez's voice. Leaves me curious about whether or not he plays any of the instruments - I hope he does. But it does suggest that he writes his own lyrics. That's a good thing. This is just a surface level review, since I have yet to sit down with the lyrics and really listen. But I'm intrigued and impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Mozez!, October 19, 2005
This review is from: So Still (Audio CD)
One would expect Mozez's solo album to be much like his previous work with Zero 7, as the cover suggests but it's not. It's every bit as good, but the new sound is unique. The music is mellow and smooth but the vocals are more precise and crisp. In short, it's very Mozez.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Still is a Must Have!, September 17, 2006
This review is from: So Still (Audio CD)
From beginning to end So Still by Mozez is a lucious ride through musical landscape. Mozez' beautiful vocals permiates the air and swirls around you with a wide variety of electronic and organic instrumentation backing him up. The lyrics are poetic and thought provoking and the male and female backing vocals and harmonies complete a perfect circle of sound. I highly reccomend this CD to everyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars thank god for mozez, March 10, 2006
This review is from: So Still (Audio CD)
an amazing album debut by the former male singer from zero 7. it's definitely not zero 7, but i cant imagine a zero 7 fan who wouldnt enjoy this cd. smooth, smokey vocals, subtle electronics, at times nostalgic, intricate production, ending with a well put together piece of art. i counted down the days and months for this release, and almost 2 months later, i still keep it in my regular rotation, and am spreading the words of mozez!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellant Album!, May 30, 2007
This review is from: So Still (Audio CD)
A must-have album. Osmond Wright of Zero 7 has constructed a nearly perfect album. Think Zero 7 with a soulful-Curtis Mayfield-meets-Seal-style voice for the whole album rather than a compilation of several different voices (that you got with Zero 7). Personal favorite tracks include: Take the Sun, Fuzz, and Baby Blue and So Still.

Can't wait for more material from Mozez!

Update: New Material reportedly to be released in May, 2009!

5.0 out of 5 stars Warm sound..., April 9, 2007
This review is from: So Still (Audio CD)
Amazing debut album by Mozez. The best elements found in his work with Zero 7 are here as well, but improved and refined. It's such a pleasure to hear his wonderful voice in all songs mixed with the sometimes relaxing instrumental work, others sorrounding you with a great uplifting feeling.
Just get this album and enjoy what I felt the first time I listened to this album. And then feel it again, and again, and again...

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Perfect, March 29, 2006

I am a huge fan of this particular trip hop/soul/electronica genre, though I have no idea how to categorise it. Having said that, i've found myself really disappointed by many highly anticipated debuts/releases. I heard Baby Blue on kcrwmusic.com and immediately recognised the voice from the sublime zero 7 releases. I received the album about 3hrs ago and have had it on repeat ever since. The lyrics, voice and music are amazing. With a collection of over 10,000 songs, choosing my favorites is often challenging. This entire album absolutely makes the grade

The problem with this album is that it doesn't really fade into the background like some other new age type songs. I was really looking for something a little less jazzy sounding and lyrics that were more indistinct so it wouldn't distract me from my practice. I can't recommend it for yoga but I enjoy playing it in my car on the morning commute. It helps to keep me from getting too stressed out.
