Kind of like Straylight Run, only a bit poppier...,
By M. Manzella "A Lover of All Things Music" (North Riverside, Il United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: So Sudden (Audio CD)
First off, this is a phenomenal debut album. Catchy, catchy melodies, great music, it just makes you feel good.
These guys are of course gonna be compared to Straylight Run(not a bad thing) because there's both a girl and a guy singer(sometimes together on a few songs) and there's a lot of piano throughout the album. What sets this band apart though is that they're insanely likeable. They're not as deep as Straylight, but it doesn't matter. You see their pictures on MySpace, you see how great they treat their fans and you want them to succeed. And they will. They have a happy-go-lucky-ness about themselves and their music that's just infectious and refreshing. Check out The Hush Sound, they're gonna be huge.

One of my favorites...,

The Hush sound are appealing because they are truly unique. When pressed, I cannot think of a single band to really compare their sound to. The one comparison I can make is to early U2. The music of the two bands is not alike, but the combination of vibrant youthful energy and rapidly emerging talent are apparent in both "So Sudden" and U2's debut, "Boy". I also see the same glimmer of future greatness. The same anticipation, the feeling that these four on on the brink of something bigger than they can imagine. In the coming years, as they learn to focus this energy, I know that worldwide success will follow.
"So Sudden" is best described as a wholly enjoyable album. While the themes of the songs can be sad or sullen, the music itself is catchy and delightful. Even the most bashful will catch themselves singing along with the lyrics, humming the tunes long after the stereo has been shut off. While I have affection for all the tracks, I am very paritial to Greta's songs. Her voice, lyrics, and piano work take us on a journey through her soul. "Elieen" is particularly interesting because of the contrast between the mourning lyrics and the soaring music. I also love "The Market". It is sweet and strange and the most original and unique song I've heard in a long time. It makes me smile without fail.

So Sudden...So Incredible,

I cannot begin to describe how much I love The Hush Sound. This CD establishes THS as an extremely talented group, and I must say that their new CD, Like Vines, is even better (I preordered it straight from FBR's online store so it shipped early). But this album is amazing nonetheless. Every track is beautiful, both musically and lyrically (the only track of which I'm not too fond is "Unsafe Safe"). Not only that, but BOTH vocalists (Bob and Greta) have clear, pristine voices that convey the emotions for which their songs call. And what's more is that the sound of their voices together (like on "The Artist") has to be heard to be believed. These guys are simply the best and are probably THE group to watch. Their indie-rock sound may not be for everyone, but if you can appreciate good (alternative) music, then you are in for a real treat. Get this album and decide whether or not you like them; if you do, get your hands on Like Vines ASAP. =)

Wow, I am so glad I happened across this album. It is superb! If you are a fan of Panic at the Disco, then you will like this band. Like Panic, The Hush Sound's songs are peppered with tinkling piano and tempo changes. They have 2 lead singers, a male and a female, both of who are talented with beautiful voices. This album is dancable, singable, and repeat-playable!

Total Ear Candy,

Pick this CD up now!!!! It really is an amazing product from an up and coming chicago band, and it doesn't sound like all of the other monotonous garbage that gets radio air time.
I don't think there is a single track on this CD that I don't enjoy. My favorites are "City traffic puzzle," "Unsafe Safe," "Echo," and "Carry Me Home." Their CD is definately one that you will not put down any time soon.

I had the wonderful experience of seeing this band live for the first time ever at the Bamboozled Tour this past weekend. I had never heard of them before, and they were by far the best band I'd seen in a long, long time. I immediately purchased their debut album "So Sudden" and I am now an instant fan.
Believe all the hype you read about them, everything is true. I will be shocked if they do not become a huge success. They are FANTASTIC!!! An all-original sound, great catchy tunes, diverse vocals...this band has it all. Every song on the album is AWESOME!! And they are great with their fans. They held a meet & greet after the show and signed hundreds of autographs, talked with everyone & you can tell that they all are genuinely great people. I wish them all the success in the world, they deserve it. And I cannot wait until June 6th for their second album release!!! Thanks for renewing my faith in current music!!

Wow. Really really wow. The Hush Sound is one of the best bands ever. Really. Okay. I'll stop babbling and start to actually review this CD.
I've seen them live twice and they are an amazing live act. They are just as good on CD. An all around talented band. They write their own music as well. This album contains both male and female vocals. The lead guitar player, Bob, sings lead on most of the songs, Greta, the pianist sings lead on about 4 songs and the bass player, Chris, sings the harmonies, which really adds to the fullness of their sound. Darren, the drummer, is superb as well. Their sound reminds me a little of Fall Out Boy and Eisley, but they really have a sound all their own. Every single track is amazing so it's almost unfair for me to pick favorites, because then I'll be leaving out some amazing songs, but I'll try anyway. City Traffic Puzzle The Artist Unsafe Safe Momentum My Apologies Carry Me Home but keep in mind that I love all of the tracks and i had such the urge just now to type them all out! You really need to buy this album. I promise you won't regret it!

You will not be disapointed when you hear a male or female and sometimes a duet of vocals with the clash of a piano in the backround of rock and swing that started at a local High School. Launched on a tour with Fall Out Boy, they almost sound similar to This Providence but still maintain their own genre. You will be surprised to notice the variety in every song with orignal style that consistantly causes you to go back an listen to some more. Lyrics are beautifuly creative with the only rock you can actually dance too. All ages - you will like this band. Rock this.

another band that i hadn't even heard of before a few weeks ago. but that didnt stop me from wanting to check them out and see what they are all about. it's hard to really pinpoint because the style varies from song to song. but its not confusing or anything its pretty refreshing to hear a band come out with a sound that you like even if its different at times. While the songs aren't all that long, they are effective in getting to you in the time alloted. From "City Traffic Puzzle" to "Weeping Willow" and on forward to "Carry Me Home".
The Hush Sound bring a style that is all their own and done rather well i also i might add. I also really like the fact that more than they have more than one lead singer and writing their own material as well. You don't see many bands that have more than one lead singer and its not a gimmick each brings his or her own style whatever song they are singing on. It might be an acquired taste for some i'm still getting into the cd myself. But i look forward to it more and more with each time that i listen to the CD. Nice one.

The Hush Sound is undeniably awesome. Their debut album, "So Sudden", couldn't be different. And that's no news to anyone.
Amazing lyrics, well-chosen tracks, instruments beautifuly played and soft voices all over the near 40 minutes that make you actually want to repeat everything again and again, hoping the moment never ends. "Eileen" is probably one of the best songs I've ever heard. They deserve to be big. My best wishes for them. |
