5.0 out of 5 stars A great read
As a general aviation pilot I could see myself in the cockpit with Spike Nasmyth as he bounced around the skies in his various ferry aircraft. Spike decribes well the problems of moving an aircraft from A to B.
Not just the mechanical problems that go with aircraft but the petty officials, the communication problems, the demanding owners, the government officials...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Good and the Bad
This is an extremely interesting and unbelievably badly written book. The stories and the intrigue make fascinating material, but the repetitive "Piece of cake" greatly takes away the pleasure of reading. This, I think, is a fine example of why a good Editor is invaluable. This author has a good story to tell, he just does it badly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read for airplane nuts, February 8, 2008
This review is from: So You Want to be a Ferry Pilot (Paperback)
This book is chock full of entertaining and engaging stories. Even if you're not particularly interested in the business of ferrying aircraft, it has a lot to offer to anyone interested in airplanes and flying adventures. And if you liked Air Vagabonds: Oceans, Airmen, and a Quest for Adventure, you'll love this. The author's descriptions of in-flight emergencies, crazy maintenance logistics, and colorful characters make this a fun read.
This book's stories are so good that it's a shame it wasn't professionally edited with a bit more attention to grammar and structure.

Not just the mechanical problems that go with aircraft but the petty officials, the communication problems, the demanding owners, the government officials and the sheer rush of finally sighting the destination.
A great read. I soaked up every word of it.
Spike, if you read this put pen to paper and write some more of the same. Pilots will love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pilot With a Lucky Charmed Life!, November 18, 2011

I would love to meet Spike, the author of this book. Perhaps some of his good luck would rub off on me! I loved reading this book and about all the close encounters Spike had while he flew his ferry flights around the world. As a pilot with many hours logged, I can relate to his passion for flight and how the adrenaline flow can be addictive. As the old saying goes; hours and hours of sheer boredom followed by moments of sheer terror. No doubt, Spike must have had his share of the later. I highly recommend this book to any pilot who thinks that ferry pilots lead a dull life. It is a great read.

IF YOU WANT THE FUN AND ADVENTURE OF FLYING IN THE WORLD OF PROPS & HOPS, THEN THIS WILL GLADDEN YOUR HEART. POP A COOL ONE, PUT YOUR FEET UP ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, CHECK YOUR SIX AND ENJOY THE RIDE.[OBTW: I SURE MISSED THE "GRAMMAR & STRUCTURE" PORTION OF GROUND SCHOOL DURING MY FLIGHT TRAINING. TOO BAD WE ALL CANNOT BE AS GIFTED AS Antoine de Saint-Exupery]
