4.0 out of 5 stars It helped me September 14, 2012

Format:Kindle Edition
My wife and I are very interested in finding a piece of land upstate and we love the idea of a yurt. When I found this book I was so excited. It really helped me understand the ins and outs and the pros and cons of raising a yurt and living in a yurt. It has very detailed info from a couple who has done it already - including costs for the various parts of the process. Very informative.

This is a first hand account of the author's experiences of building & living in a yurt. Inculded are many pictures of the yurt construction and links to helpful resources. The author writes very informally as she would tell the story in a conversation. This was slightly distracting for reading and in my opinion should be cleaned up on a second version. Overall, this was a good report of what to expect from yurt living and answers many questions you didn't know you should ask. Such as the noise factor of yurt living.

5.0 out of 5 stars Covers the reality factor of living in a yurt February 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved it. Granted, it's not a very long book, but that's okay too. It's a lot better when it's short and sweet instead of excessively wordy.

This book is a personal account of building and then living in a yurt. Granted, not everyone will experience it the exact same way, but it does clue in the prospective yurt owner about some of the ins and outs of building and living in a yurt, things that would not be immediately realized. That's why everyone wants to talk to someone who's already done it, if they are thinking about any alternative architecture.

If you know things ahead of time, you can plan ahead, and this book specifically gives you some need-to-knows, such as insulating the floor, before the prospective yurt owner even begins to put down their deposit on a yurt.

It's a definite must-read for anyone considering a yurt!

This is an incredibly thorough look at what it takes to build a Yurt and will help you create the proper expectations and avoid pitfalls. It is clear that the writer lived the project and has a good understanding of the process. It appears to me that this family is living in their yurt which gives the data even more credibility.

I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in Yurts and most definitely to anyone considering building one. If I were a manufacturer I would want my prospective customers to read as well to avoid any confusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed to hear! April 6, 2013
By Sarah
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It was certainly refreshing to hear a realistic experience and perspective on buying and building a yurt. My husband and I have always kind of day dreamed about buying one to live in permanently, but never really knew where to start or what it involved legally. This book broke down the "nitty-gritty"est of details in how to get started in a Q&A format which was ever so helpful. I don't know of any other books (or ebooks for that matter) that are all about the trials and tribulations of erecting a yurt and everything that goes along with it. Definitely a good read and it brought my yurt fantasies back to earth a little. (I still want one though!)

5.0 out of 5 stars great introductory information May 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've got 7 acres and often envision having a structure of some sort of meeting structure on site - this introductory publication helped me sort through ideas and introduced me to important concepts in planning and building a yurt. I recommend strongly for those considering a yurt purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars User friendly, honest, and well researched. March 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book for many reasons, not just because I am interested in this subject, but because the author has an honest and refreshing everyday person approach to her descriptions and insights that are truly useful to someone who is pursuing the idea of living in a yurt. I highly reccomend this book to anyone looking into the yurt experience.

2.0 out of 5 stars Clearly not written by a professional... May 6, 2015
By ben
Format:Kindle Edition
This entire book could be condensed into a single blog post. The content is repetitive and shallow. The tone lacks any real personality other than the author moaning about how long her project got delayed because of build surprises. There's also a lack of insight as the author worked with contractors and didn't learn much regarding the technicalities of construction. If you're serious about yurt living and are an absolute beginner, I recommend http://www.reddit.com/r/TinyHouses/wiki/index over this book.
