Soap Making for Kids: Instructions and Materials Included to Make 6 Fun Soaps!

This is a kit with an 8 page pamphlet, written and illustrated in light blue ink. The kit includes 3 PALE oval soaps-not the vibrant colors shown on the cover of the box, a piece of string, and a plastic mold tray(same shapes as cover). There is not much for the child to do & few projects. Basically, child snaps soap in two, parent heats in microwave, parent pours molten soap, whoever is able pops soap out when it cools. The other 2 "projects" are making two-toned soap & sticking the piece of string in the soap to make "soap on a rope."

I thought this was going to be a neat book with LOTS of cool ideas for the kids to do. It is not even a book!

If you want a kit to keep the kids busy, this is not it. Try RoseArt's "Moldable Soap Sensations" in which kids can shape the soap by hand like clay(includes 5 bright colors, 6 cookie cutters, rolling pin, & cutting/shaping tool.)

This did not hold my kids' (ages 5 & 8) interest at all.

When I ordered this I was expecting information about traditional soap making. Instead it is a kit with instructions, molds and supplies for making several small glycerine soaps. The safety instructions for adult supervision are exceedingly cautious, and would indicate little involvement for very young children. That said, it certainly was a big hit with the 10 year old boy to whom I gave it as a birthday gift, and who made the soaps by himself. Here's part of his thank you note: "Thanks for the soapmaking kit. I love it!!!!! I have already made
all the soaps." His parents sent along a video clip confirming his enthusiasm. I think "Soap Making For Kids" is suitable for children over the age of 8 whose parents will just oversee, but allow the child to do the activity.

It's a good book for your children. Great Fun! Makes for great family projects. Can get a little messy but that's part of the fun. You clean up with the soap afterwards. Good for the price!
