Zizi's masterpiece,
By Hugo (Barcelona, Spain) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sobre Todas As Coisas (Audio CD)
In my opinion, Zizi Possi is one of the finest voices of contemporary Brazilian music. Her high-pitched, moody vocals are always compelling. This 1991 recording represented a shift in her career: that's when she decided to leave her usual label to be able to sing what she really wanted and the way she wanted, with much more restrained arrangements than before: here just piano, cello, charango and percussion. And the result is really great, since Zizi's voice is so melodic that it doesn't need much orchestration. The repertoire ranges between heartfelt ballads and more raucous rhythms. Some of the best cuts are the exquisite cover of Chico Buarque's "Eu te amo" and her very personal version of "Com que roupa", a Brazilian classic from the 20s.

I was realy searching this record.
And am so happy to have it now. I thing this is a major record of brasilian music, I'd say one of the 10 best record of Brazil. The trio is fantastic and is a reference for me "how to play in trio" And Zizi is great here, just, as a producer, the reverb on her voice is a little too brilliant. Gae

A stunning showcase for a beautiful voice,

This is a truly stunning album which showcases Zizi Possi's pure, clear voice perfectly. The instrumental accompaniment is stripped down to just keyboard or cello or guitar plus one of a variety of Brazilian percussion instruments and works very well in these songs. If you have tracked down this album from hearing O que e O que e on the Rough guide to Samba compilation, as I did, you will not be disappointed. All the tracks are as entrancing as that one. A paz is particularly beautiful. It took me a while to track down an affordable cd of this album. It really deserves to be re-released to reach a wider audience. An English translation of the lyrics would be good too.
