Great selection from Barbados, Trinidad, and a lil' Antigua.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Soca Gold 1999 (Audio CD)
It's not often you hear music from Antigua, but El-A-Kru's "Lethal Batty," definitely shows their soca music is not to be looked over. Krosfyah is always doing their job with music for Barbados Cropover. "Oil Pumping,"(by Barbados Cropover 1999 Party Monarch, Edwin Yearwood) and "Calor"(from group member Anthony Bailey), are still big hits in Barbados. Then there's Sanell Dempster w/ Blue Ventures with her Trinidad Carnival 1999 Road March song, "De River." Everyone goes crazy in the soca clubs when heard. Iwer George always has the party going with his songs. Nigel Lewis continually keeps us going year after year. Rupie(who you may know 1997's Soca Gold "Ice Cream" w/ band Coalishun), has his own "Titanic" song. His songs do well on Barbados radio stations. And speaking of Barbados, Rammeses Brown's "Stamina," has everyone wukkin' up in the clubs. Trinidad's Kurt Allen keeps the party jumpin' (literally) with "Dust Dem." And if that's not enough, could you believe that Square One(The Barbados "Embassadors") keep coming back year after year with more hits? The Soca Gold series is getting better each year. This one is definitely not to be missed.

Soca Gold does it again!,

Soca Gold is the best compilation each year and this is no exception. It is impossible to put every single soca tune on one compilation, but this one does the best job. If you only buy one 99 soca CD, this is the one to buy! Otherwise be sure to pick up Square One "In Full Bloom" as well as Machel Montano/ Xtatik "Any Minute Now" as well!

This cd is a combination of the best of carnival '99 music. Every year I wonder how in the world could it possibly get any better than this... and the music never cease to amaze me the following year. Love this albumn... the only thing missing is FALUMA which you can find on the Square One cd entitled: In Full Bloom!! Buy them both though, cause even though Faluma is REALLY good, you don't want to miss the "oil pumping" or "letal batty" on this one!!

This is album is great but where are : "Faluma" by Square One and "Toro"? I keep playing "Oil Pumping" over and over. As for Lethal batty, De River, Titanic, I Run De Party & Dust Dem - how could one not wine, jumpand wave and soca-cise? This is a good CD but I need my Faluma Ding, Ding, Ding, as well as to Charge Toro, Toro!

Mostly good stuff on this comp. Standouts include tracks 1,2,8, and 13. The steel drums and rapid pace will keep you movin. The quality of acts featured in this CD will get you to explore other Soca music and the great music of Trinidad.

I loved this CD very much and it is on constant rotation in my CD changer. The sleeper track on it was "Kaylaylay" by Mr. Dale and Magnet Man. Mr. Dale is an up and coming star in soca music. His voice is amazing and does things to the ears of the listener.

Hot,lively CD. I'm in love with the "Kaylaylay" track.Does Mr.Dale and/or Magnet Man have an album? This is the freshest combination I've heard in Soka music for a long time. "Calor" is very hot as well. Cant wait for Soka Gold 2000 and 2001.
