Every youth coach MUST own this book.,
This review is from: Soccer Practice Games: 120 Games for Technique, Training, and Tactics (Paperback)
I have been coaching youth soccer at various levels for nearly 15 years, and this past season I had more fun than any year before. The primary reasons: 1) my practices were more fun for me and the players 2) my practices were more productive. Both of these transformations came from reading this book. I wish I could thank Mr. Luxbacher personally.

excellent collection of games to add fun to practice,

Great book for coaches of travel and premier youth players with a 30-minute gap in their practice plan. Helps develop players' passion for the game with a large collection of fun, competitive games. Book helped me change from a well-intentioned, somewhat knowledgeable coach into a good coach with players who enjoy coming to practice. This is the coaching book that I refer to most.

Every soccer coach should have this resource in their library. Your players will NEVER be bored if you use just some of the "games" illustrated in this book. My daughter's travel team coach has included drills from the book in just about every practice for the last two seasons and almost every one of them is a hit with the players. They're having so much fun playing these "games" the girls don't realize the good, solid, soccer skills and techniques they're developing.

Great source of games to develop specific skills, with many suggestions for modifications of the game based on results. Great reference book to help match a training need with a practice game

No matter how many other soccer coaching books you buy, you will always keep coming back to this one. I have about 20 books, but this is the one whose games consistently find their way into practices. The games are simple, so you can get the players going right away. The games are focused, so the players can become effective with one skill without having to master 6 others at the same time. The games are quick, so you can run them for 5 minutes or 45 minutes and get something out of them. The games are fun, so you can use them again and again, and get some productive learning over the course of a season.

Luxbacher's the Best!,
This review is from: Soccer Practice Games: 120 Games for Technique, Training, and Tactics (Paperback)
I've read all of Luxbacher's soccer books. Judging by how he writes, he's one of the best youth coaches in America. I've incorporated many of Luxbacher's drills and small-sided games into my sons' teams' practices. Luxbacher and publisher Human Kinetics are the best in America!

Great ideas for a coach who does not have any,
By A Customer
This review is from: Soccer Practice Games: 120 Games for Technique, Training, and Tactics (Paperback)
One of the best books on soccer coaching ever. The drills are very simple to follow. I have incorporated some of the ideas into my own coaching sessions and the team that I coach really loves it. They have fun whilst at the same time they learn some basic skills. With this book, you will not be short of ideas on how to run soccer practices.

So Good I Accidentally Bought It Twice,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Soccer Practice Games - 2nd Edition (Paperback)
I originally bought the Second Edition here is the original review I gave for that one - then the rest of the story after:
Excellent Book for Coaches of U12 and Younger This book is a mix of some of the more traditional, well known soccer drills/games and some more unusual one. The best part about this collection of exercises is that most of them are designed to be fun, so the kids will actually enjoy doing them. Other coaches will look at you strangely for some of the games in this book. That is, until they see how good your team is. I say that from experience. I incorporated the leapfrog exercise into our warm-ups, and people thought I was crazy, but the team was developing their strength and balance, and the kids loved it! If I could only pick one book of activities to use during practices, this would be my choice. --- As I have continued coaching, I have become a fan of Joseph Luxbacher's work. His book Steps to Soccer Success is excellent as well. While this book is about practice games, Steps to Soccer Success is more about technical skills and correct form. So when I saw this book, I decided I wanted it, without realizing that I already owned the book (you'd be amazed at all the soccer books I own). Anyway, the 3rd Edition is definitely better than the 2nd Edition in that there are 50 more games and the graphics are much better.

This is my first year coaching. I was worried what/how to teach 3 & 4th graders. This book gave MANY excellent drills and games for the kids to play and learn. The diagrams were very helpful. If your looking for a good book with lots of great ideas...this is great for any level player or coach!!
