I don't even like soccer, and I probably wouldn't ever buy a "real" soccer simulation, but this game is a blast. Or more specifically, the multiplayer game is a blast! I've only played solo a few times, and it can be entertaining-- but nothing compares to the 4 player slug fest that ensues when you get all of the controllers going. The rivalries that we've created in a mere 48 hours are as formidable as those of the Bears/Packers or Knicks/Pacers. And nothing will enrage your opponent more than forcing him to watch the replay of you taking him to school-- all the way through!

I had to throw people out of my house at 4am this morning so I could sleep, and I look forward to doing it again tonight. I mean, I can't say "No" when my friends call up tonight wanting to redeem El Diablo, or kick Lola in the teeth one more time.

Bottom Line- If you've been staring at the Gamecube and your 4 controllers thinking, "Smash Bros. Melee and Monkey Ball are fun, but did I really need all of the extra controllers?", then this is the game for you. I've played SSBM extensively, and I have to say that this is definitely #1 when it comes to multi-player on the Cube-- definitely!

Today I received a copy of Sega Soccer Slam. Here are my impressions...

Wow!

What a great job Black Box/Visual Concepts have done.

The graphics are pleasant to the eye, while not breath-taking. The most impressive aspect graphic wise to me are the characters themselves, especially while using the L button to power up.

The sound on this puppy is excellent. The first time you hear the fast "bagpipe jingle" while playing with the Volta, you can't help but smile. Some catchy tunes are found everywhere. Great one liners, btw.

I guess my only real complaint about the game is number of teams/courses. It would have been nice to have about twice as much of both, but it's doesn't hurt the overall quality of the game much. Also, the control system can be quirky at times, but nothing too annoying.

Bottom Line: This game is fun. If you have 1, 2, or 3 friends, this game is a must buy. If there ever is a Soccer Slam 2 (and there should be), I'll make sure I'm first in line to pick it up.

Look out! The best soccer game on the market for gamecube is here! Wow, I don't know were to start! There is so much that is great about this game! The graphics are exellent. Another thing great about this game is the codes you can get. Quest mode is the Season play in this game. You can choose one of 6 All-Star teams with awesome 3 on 3 gameplay. This multi-player game is the only sports game to match-up to NHL Hitz. Each player has it's own attitude and strengths. Plus, no penalties! You can go up and slide tackle the golie or hit opponents. The games are usually high scoring but they're close! Each team has it's own Homefeild, but each are based on each team. You can also earn money (only in Guest mode) to buy items to strengthen you're players! A great game this is, so go to [a local video rental store] and rent this game!

Many have wanted to compare this to Fifa 2002. I will give the true comparison that all you soccer game fans want to here. First in graphics Fifa wins. That is my opinion all though it is fairly arguable. Fifa has detailed player animations and realistic fields (the grass in my opinion is jaw dropping). Yet in soccer slam you will see bright cartoonish graphics. No, this is not aa bad thing it actually brings a nice fun tone to the game. Sound goes to Soccer slam in my opinion. Why the announcer is a weird cowboy guy who makes you laugh with his wild antics. The music is lacking but the players make up with it with their insults that leave you laughing to the point where it hurts. Fifa's sound is also great. The thing i disliked was the monotonous announcers. The thing that was good was the in-game souns and soundtrack featuring songs by the guerriliz. In fun soccer slam wins. The players are original and cool. From a scottish boxer to an african medicine man. There are three players and a goalie per team. There are cool kicks and exiting passes. Yes, you can hit your opponent without being charged with a foul. Fifa too is fun but lacks character originality and a fast paced game. The final category is replay value. I believe Fifa has more replay value. In soccer slam once you have beaten the continental cup you feel like you are done. Soccer slam features 6 teams and 9 feilds. Fifa has countless teams, challenges, and goals. Which leaves you coming back for more. A few last notes are the multiplayer is very fun ...

Visual Concepts has been and is renowned for the amazing Sega Sports franchises. Now, they're pulling away from the norm of Sega Sports to create Soccer Slam. An innovative twist, the game shows awesome character design, flashy particle effects, and a whole lot of fun. This Gamecube exclusive, three-on-three, no rules game of soccer should be fun for everyone when it's released at the end of March.

Sega Soccer Slam in all its glory, is a game that successfully throws out anything that would make a sim soccer experience fun and ingeniously rebuilds there own versoin of soccer that's part Matrix,NBA Jam,Bruce Lee and even throw in a dash of cartoon network. In a nut shell, Slam includes 6 teams with their own strengths and characteristicaly developed players and pits them against each other in a quest, exibition, or tournament game. In a quest mode game, you can buy items to give your team an extra umph in style and skills. If you enter a tourney mode match, 6 teams hold a five game tournament for the tourney cup. There is a practice mode that sets you up in different situations that teaches you about every skill you will need to know to be successful. And there is always an exibition match where you can just have a quick game against an opponent. With the lack of modes in Soccer Slam comes the biggest part of the game, the amazingly addictive gameplay that will have you yelling and holering after every play. The feature that sets this game far away from a sim game or even Blitz or Hitz is the "Killer Kicks" shots and "spotight shots". To get a killer kick you have to fill up your meter by stealing, hiting, shooting, passing, and dekeing. After your killer kick meter is full, you can let it rip, the ball will fly into the air and it becomes a toss up between teams, if you manage to get in the circle that apears and to press the shoot button, your player jumps into the air and the game goes in slow motion, your player does a crazy siccors like kick that when connecting to the ball, the game sets back into reality speed and the ball goes streaking through the air with a look similar to the bullets in The Matrix. Now the spotlight shots are a little different from the killer kicks, to get a spot light shot you have to get the player, with the ball, into a randomly apearing and moving light that shines on the feild. If you succeed in doing this, the spotlight will follow your character, if you hold the shot button your character will do one of several amazing kicks while going in slowmotion, until his or her foot connects with the ball and sends a cannon of a shot through the feild. On top of all the awesome kicks is the super powers that each team has. For example, el fuego turns on fire when you use their specail power, and when toxic uses theire's you can see the player's skeletal structure with radiation exerting from the ball and player themself. With the lasting impression that this game has left on me, I now know that a game does not need modes and unlockables to be superior, but just good old fashoined gameplay, what games used to only be. If my thoughts on this gem have not persuaded you, god have mercy on your damned soul.

I typically shy away from "extreme" sports games because, well, they often replace the depth and subtlety of the sporting contests with over the top violence and wacky power-ups. Soccer Slam doesn't break this trend, but it doesn't completely divorce itself from being a really fine soccer game. In terms of "extremeness" it falls somewhere between NFL Blitz and NBA Street - and I enjoy Soccer Slam more than either of those titles.

Soccer Slam is played on a tiny field with 4 players per side - 3 character players and a generic goalie. The small field constantly pumps Soccer Slams with the electric feel that you get from watching soccer highlights - when the ball is perilously close to the goal and it is going to take a miracle to prevent a goal. While the size of the field and pacing that allow for these "highlights" to happen almost every 30 seconds has the potential for growing stale, it takes a while to tire of players doing huge acrobatic kicks and goalies leaping at the last moment to save the ball. The action is very fast, high energy, and keeps the player involved the entire time.

The main play mode, called "Quest", follows the season for one of the six teams from the opening matches, to the All Star game, and if they play well enough, to the championship. Quest mode is clearly inspired by Virtua Tennis's World Mode - complete with a map of the globe and mini-games between the matches. You can buy power-ups (often wacky clothing for already over-the-top characters) with the money earned from winning matches and completing challenges that help boost the character's attributes, like stealing ability or speed. Its a nice touch to see your players sport their new garb on the field, but the feature overall doesn't feel well integrated into the game - much like the ability increases in the original Tony Hawk game.

Soccer Slam is a great game to pick up in the drought of Cube games. It isn't an epic 70 hour quest or have millions of secrets to unlock like Smash Brothers, but it is a very solid multiplayer game that is the best extreme sports title I've played. If they make a sequel, I'll be first in line.

A month before I bought Soccer Slam- i resolved to never buy a sports game again. I realized that all i did was play franchise mode seasons just so i could get to the next one- never realizing i wasnt having much fun in the process... Enter Soccer SLam. I was instantly convinced that the game had the ability to be more than just a sports game. I seem to enjoy each game i play- and the quest mode gives me more that just a trophy and a "lets do it again!" earning items adds depth to the game- AND the items you earn for one team in quest mode can actually harm you in the long run, because once you change teams- the computer controlled teams maintain those items in quest mode! the teams naturally get tougher as you get further in the game. I find the quest and tourney modes to be more fun than most people concede, but the multi-player is somehow even more fun. Two of my brothers and I played an entire 5 round tourney, and we never felt the sting of boredom- even in the games where two of us were just watching. The game is very much unlike FIFA, but its not meant to be the same game- and its a better game for it

Anyway he's doing flips in the air, he rears back to shoot, AND HE'S SUCKER-PUNCHED WHILE IN THE AIR! He goes down hard, with the other team in control of the ball, and goes on fire! He charges up the field and tackles some skinny guy that has sparks of electricity coming out his ears. A wrestler from Mexico gets control and shoots from midfield...HE SCORES!
End Score: 16 El Fuego, 14 Electra.

Actually you can't tell what the frigg the goalies are because they have heavy body armor on. As I said before, this is one messed (but cool) game. It provides with more fun then some bestselling games that I will not speak of or everyone on earth will be out to get me. This game is almost like NHL HITZ 20-02 because of the three player action. (The goalies can't be controlled, but they're good enough.) And to clear things up the guy that went on fire was really a skinny girl with strange hair. And fire is El Fuego's natural power. Electra uses bolts of electicity. A team which its name escapes me has poison. Overall, this game is new and exciting.
