2.0 out of 5 stars Aren't charm and manners available to everyone?
This book is DEFINITELY for you if you want your coaching in the social graces served up with a generous dollop of Christianity, including a story of a cook who prayed "Dear Lord, You are in the redemption business. Please redeem this turkey". However, if you're like me, preferring etiquette books to be available to all, regardless of faith, you may want to look elsewhere...

Once upon a time, children learned social skills around the family dining table. With today's busy schedules and often so many mothers working, families find less time for such traditions. Experts on hospitality and warm sociability, Ann Platz and Susan Wales provide readers with an easy-to-follow how-to manual of social graces. Learning the rules of etiquette is possible with Social Graces. This charming book makes life easier and more fun, and also helps instill a sense of self-confidence. Life is like a game, if you don't know the rules, you can't succeed in life. It's important to remember, however, that the rules of etiquette are of the book; manners are of the heart.

If anyone wants to 'polish up' their manners and etiquette. This book is highly recommended.
Well written, user friendly and beautifully illustrated.
A book to be treasured.

It is also a great book to pass down to your children.

Social Graces was a big help in knowing how to tip waitresses, bell boys, ect... Working in a tourist town and knowing who to tip or not can sometimes be a concern for most people. Especially for those of us that don't get out of the hills much, so the book was very helpful. I would like to see more manner books on social conversation and answering gracefully in difficult situations. So keep writing Aunts! (You will understand that statement when you read the book!) Buy it today.

My wife is using this book to teach ages 7-15 year old girls manners and etiquette. She thinks this is an excellent book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Conversation With Lovely "Aunts" Who Want YouTo Have A Gracious Life, March 23, 2010

I have a smile on my face as I review this book, written by two lovely and gracious southern ladies. The book started with a conversation about the value of manners, before getting down to specifics.

Strategies were given for handling bullies, knowing what fork to use, how to write thank-you notes, make introductions properly, shake hands, and when to sit or stand. Table manners were covered in greater detail. Some attention was also given to business and travel etiquette.

A large amount of coverage was given to hospitality, being a proper hostess or a thoughtful guest. There is a section on tipping and how to make excellent and appropriate conversation at dinner parties. There was an interesting section on how to eat certain 'difficult' foods. We got some help on what to do when, not if, we make mistakes.

A final section gave brief recommendations on staring, shouting, talking about physical ailments, fighting over the restaurant bill, etc.

All-in-all, this is a charming little book with delightful illustrations, many of which look like they should be framed and displayed.

I loved reading this book. It is well written and everything in it is useful. Parts of it bring back memories of my childhood. I wish we could all slow down, remember our etiquette and be more gracious.
