4.0 out of 5 stars Classic University Level Text on the Subject
This is one of the classic college level texts on the subject. Indispensible for the study of this subject and includes many types of inequity in the United States and its causes and impacts. Without this book you could spend days looking for some of the statistical data presented here detailing inequality in the United States. Often cited for documentation.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly researched, often inaccurate and offensive
It's ironic that a text called "Social Inequality" perpetuates so many of the beliefs that lead to social inequality, which is somewhat dangerous given that this book is often used as the main resource in college courses. It's ironic that a text called "Social Inequality" perpetuates so many of the beliefs that lead to social inequality, which is somewhat dangerous given that this book is often used as the main resource in college courses. I couldn't believe that this book made it out of editing, much less to a 7th edition - in every single chapter, there were inaccuracies and offensive stereotypes of different groups of people. In an attempt to appear neutral, the text actually gives credence to some really offensive ideas (for example, in trying to portray both sides of the debates around racial profiling, actually put forth the idea that black people may just be inherently more criminal - what?!). This is a truly awful book and I hope that instructors stop using it for courses.
