In this book, Eve and her team at Social Media Delivered, provide practical understanding of Social Media, and make the executive reader familiar not with the technology, but with the thinking process behind the decision to embrace Social Media. Not that it is an option (unless you've decided to phase out of your business). Social Media isn't a fad, and the sooner company directors realize it, the better. This book provides detailed case studies, from a wide variety of businesses and industries, showcasing successful integration of social media practices in small and large businesses (from a local franchisee, to General Motors), Non-for-Profit, and more....
What I really loved about this book, is the overall approach to the integration of SM to every facet of the business, as it will likely to affect the entire business.
I recommend this book to any director or company owner. Whether you're thinking you should embrace SM in your business and don't understand how, or if you think SM is a complete waste of time - READ THIS BOOK, and then make an INFORMED decision.

Saw Eve speak at a conference and was so glad to get her book. A very quick and easy read packed full of case study insights and practical tips. The Social Media Equation was most enlightening, providing a useful framework to view all of your social media interactions. With the goal to interact and inform, it's okay to try to sell your stuff too! This last bit really helps position social media in terms the CEO can understand - ROI.

Conclusion: Two Thumbs Up!

'Cuz I'm living in South Korea, I'd preordered this book and got it two weeks ago.
Actually, I found myself read this book through the very night when I'd got it. Also I'd read it three times already to find more insights if there's anything I'd missed.

I can say it's full of disciplines and insights regarding the execution of 'Social Media' (especially) FOR ANY MANAGERS AND EXECUTIVES.
If you're higher than manager level or going to plan a task related with 'Social Media'; you have to know that this book contains FULL OF INSIGHTS about planning and executing your business through Social Media.
If you're a kind of lecturer about Social Media and Business on Social Media; this book will be the PERFECT SIDEKICK AND REFERENCE for you.

Without being too much of a spoiler, I can say with absolute confidence that you will have some great takeaways from this book, regardless of where you are on the org chart and/or how familiar you are with social media. In my opinion, the best part of this book has to be the inclusion of case studies, highlighting the social media growing pains of several different companies in several different sectors. This really engaged me as a reader, so much so that I actually ended up completing the book in one sitting. Feel free to let me know what you think of the book -- I'm @jeffcarroll on Twitter. Great job Eve and company! Thanks!

This book is an excellent read! I even bought copies for my boss and our CEO as I thought it was very helpful and would be perfect for explaining our IT department's case for getting more into Social Media. Many businesses don't use social media and they are missing the boat! This book made it very easy to understand why companies should be using social media as ways of getting more recognition and more business. I highly recommend this book for IT people and definitely CEO's!!

I recently read "Social Media for the CEO: The Why and ROI of Social Media for the CEO of Today and Tomorrow" by Eve Mayer Orsburn. I read this book in digital format on my Kindle.
Ms. Orsburn is the founder and CEO of Social Media Delivered in Dallas, Texas. This book provides an abundance of information for the CEO who is interested in promoting his/her business. You are not a CEO? The good news is that this book will benefit anyone who wants to learn more about social media marketing.
Ms. Orsburn emphasizes that social media is about communication and building relationships. Social media delivers (1) customer service, (2) marketing and (3) communication. It is as simple as that.
The author provides 14 case studies of companies that use social media to build their client base and grow their businesses. Some of these companies are the Mayo Clinic, Anheuser-Busch, Texas State Optical and General Motors. Ms. Orsburn explains how she built her reputation as a social media consultant on LinkedIn.
I found the author's "Social Media Equation" the highlight of this book. She breaks down the amount of time that you should spend in providing information, entertaining and interacting with people that you connect with on social media sites. If you follow this formula, you will reap the rewards of new friendships, professional contacts and clients. I am going to write this formula on a piece of paper and tape it to my desk.
This book is a quick read and is very easy to understand. The concepts that are presented in this book are very doable. I have read quite a few books on this subject and I honestly believe that I learned more practical information from this book than from any other.
PS: The last pages of this book list hundreds (thousands?) of Twitter names that the author follows. I found this list fascinating and I am using it to find many new people to follow.

I love the format of this book. Straight to the point, not long-winded, but packed with useful information you can use right away. At around 160 pages it's one of those books you can read cover-to-cover on a typical plane ride. Also, the explanations of various aspects of social media plus the good advice from the author is continually punctuated with case study examples of organizations who have had success with various social media initiatives. A neat technique which makes the book very easy to read. In virtually all the case study examples all those organizations started with little or no social media activity and began by identifying a opportunity or need. The author then describes exactly the objectives that were set, the approach they took, and the success they experienced as a result.

Without stealing too much thunder (and "secrets") from the book - here's just a taster of some of the valuable messages Ms. Mayer Orsburn gets across:

1. Social media is simply people communicating through technology. You've always won business and cultivated positive ongoing customer relationships by "communicating", right? Well, social media provides even more effective ways to do just that - so what are you waiting for?

2. You need some ROI justification? Really? Well, if you must, there's advice for how to do that.

3. Step 1 in her "5 Step Plan" is to LISTEN. Listen at 3 levels - to what people are saying about your industry; your organization; and your products. (In Pink's instance I would add "listen to what people are saying about YOU" to this list - especially as we promote our own personal brands, something I've encouraged all our Consultants to do).

4. There are many channels (services) available to use (that's why it's called "social media" not "social medium") Stuff like web sites, blogs, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. Maybe that sounds a bit daunting - so get started with one and build from there. The case studies described in the book mostly do just that.

5. You need to spend time INFORMING, ENTERTAINING & INTERACTING before you can expect to gain a real business benefit ("convert to business" = improve sales). A chapter in the book explains the relationships between these activities and the amount of time you should spend on each.

6. Re-use and link content across multiple media. Now you're starting to create an integrated social media strategy.
I think I'll stop here, otherwise I could be in trouble for plagiarism! Just go buy the book, and keep me honest

Even if you don't read the book cover-to-cover, spend even just a few minutes scanning through it and you'll pick up enough good advice to make it worth your while.
