I purchased this textbook for a social media course in the online Undergraduate Certificate in Social Media program at Central Michigan University. The authors do a fantastic job of introducing the readers to both the uses of social media, but how they relate to common marketing strategies and tactics. There is a plethora of definitions throughout the text and several anecdotes of how business have successfully, or unsuccessfully, used social media to achieve business goals.

However, I did find the tone of authors aired on the side of condescension. This is clearly written for a Gen-Y audience of undergraduate college students which, at times, feels a little insulting to new and experienced social media professionals regardless of age.

Overall, this is a very concise and informative introduction to the world of social media marketing. Too bad any text written about social media is obsolete by the time it is even published.

I used the book for my assignments. It was very easy to use and to understand. Tracy did a good job as she manage to simplify the content.

I find this textbook to be very difficult to use. The index is missing words and phrases that I need to look up. There are typos and misspellings. The font size is much smaller than standard publications. The textbook itself is very small and thin. Definitions are buried in the text instead of appearing in the same sentence as the highlighted term. Rather, I have to read the whole paragraph or several sentences before and after the highlighted term to extrapolate the definition, which is extremely annoying and a waste of my studying time. Make it easy for students to find definitions and review for exams; not harder! Learning from this textbook is very difficult. Rather, I am learning more from the independent research assignments that my professor gives me and I pretty much ignore the reading assignments, because reading this book is so frustrating.

As close to state of the art a book on this topic can be given how fast technology evolves. My goal is to help friends create social media campaigns. I now have a much better idea as to the possibilities but I'll have to learn the platforms to be truly useful.

Used this for my Social Media Marketing class. Although some stuff is already outdated, it gives good background information as long as the professor utilizes other pieces from the real world (i.e current articles and stats)

This text is right on - an excellent tool for students looking to break into careers in social media marketing.

Social Media Marketing provides both organizational tools for understanding the overwhelming number of social media channels and vehicles available to social media marketers, as well as strategic tools for future planners to use when working with clients.

The examples within the book give students the opportunity to learn what other brands are doing (right and wrong) in the world of social media marketing. They give students a starting place so that they can then get on the web, explore these brands, and follow them as their marketing plans evolve and change.

Students will be grateful to have this text as a reference tool on their bookshelf. Teachers will be relieved to visit the supporting website - [...] - for everything from a daily resource feed to PowerPoint presentations to links to examples within the book.

The authors are also highly responsive to inquiries. Great text!

Social Media Marketing is a solid textbook covering the essentials of using social media in a variety of marketing settings. It's often written in easy-to-understand conversational tones. My only downcheck is the small font size. It's only 250 pages long, but for the hefty price tag even in paperback, I wish it was easier on the eyes.
