Great information and outline of social media marketing

I purchased this textbook for a social media course in the online Undergraduate Certificate in Social Media program at Central Michigan University. The authors do a fantastic job of introducing the readers to both the uses of social media, but how they relate to common marketing strategies and tactics. There is a plethora of definitions throughout the text and several anecdotes of how business have successfully, or unsuccessfully, used social media to achieve business goals.
However, I did find the tone of authors aired on the side of condescension. This is clearly written for a Gen-Y audience of undergraduate college students which, at times, feels a little insulting to new and experienced social media professionals regardless of age.
Overall, this is a very concise and informative introduction to the world of social media marketing. Too bad any text written about social media is obsolete by the time it is even published.
