This book teaches you how to market your business on the Internet using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, and more. It's also perfect for full-time Internet marketers. Unlike some other more technical volumes on this topic, this visual and easy-to-understand full-color book is chock-full of intelligent Internet marketing strategy.

This book came out in March 2012 so it's hot off the presses and 95% up-to-date. Printed in full-color, the 290page book walks you through a series of eight lessons, including planning for major social media platforms, geolocation platforms, and analyzing your return on investment (ROI).

This book includes a CD ROM with three hours of digital training including integrated audio and video instruction.

Illustrated with screenshots, icons, colorful headings, and helpful sidebars, the book is highly visual and succinct. No time is wasted on lengthy anecdotes. Quizzes and checklists give you feedback on your understanding of the material, Internet marketing approach, and more.

In Lesson 7: Social Media Marketing with Geolocation and Location Platforms, we learn that geolocation (where the person is, especially on a mobile device) is the next big thing in marketing. The chapter touches on FourSquare (badge-based check-ins), Gowalla (spots and trip), Groupon (coupons that require a minimum participation before they are active), and LivingSocial as the examples of platforms to attract new customers and reward loyal customers.

Any technical writer can explain how to use platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, however, the author puts these tools in the context of creating and implementing an intelligent social media marketing plan. Phyllis Khare's Social Media Marketing for Dummies book is a well written how-to guide for anyone that needs to learn specifics about how to market themselves on social media. She includes many handy tips and it is obvious that she is a seasoned hands-on social media manager. The section on bios and branding is especially helpful and important as the foundation of your marketing efforts. Maybe her next edition will include a section on Google Plus and its importance in search!
