Review

Corey Perlman is a thought leader and go-to resource in the social media space. This book offers executives and their staff a roadmap to a simple and successful social media strategy. I've benefited from his insights and so will you.
- Mark Sanborn, President of Sanborn & Associates, Inc.
- Bestselling author of The Fred Factor and Fred 2.0

Perlman's first book was the catalyst behind kick-starting an amazing online journey that has not only brought me more customers, but also launched a personal brand, speaking career, an info-product business, a book deal, and more opportunities than I can shake a stick at! Social Media Overload is now going to help me take it all to a whole new level!

From the Author

As a speaker, I'm told we're supposed to have a new book out every 18 months. It took me five years to get this book out of me. Ugh.
Well, I didn't want to just write a book for the sake of getting something out there. I wanted to make sure I had something to say. I had a gentleman come up to me at a break during one of my events because he was frustrated that I hadn't covered how to syndicate his Twitter feed on his Website. When I asked what business he was in, he told me he sold medical supplies to the elderly. We had a zen-like moment where we just stared at each other. He then uttered the words...
"I don't need to be on Twitter, do I?"
"I don't think you do," I said. And this book was born. Too many people (and companies) are overwhelmed with the amount of sites out there and the limited time and resources they have to spend. I wrote this book for you to map out what sites you need to focus on and then ignore the rest. Keep it simple...focus on a few and excel instead of being a jack of all social media sites, master of none.
I hope you enjoy,
Corey Perlman

To bring a new user of social media along, Perlman has now focused on social media. There are so many options, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, are the only ones I have attempted and really I only use Facebook. Not only did I learn more about Facebook (which I used all day every day), but I learned how to integrate my FB usage with Twitter and LinkedIn.

After reading the book, I didn't feel completely at ease, I don't think any book can do that. I did however, develop a plan that I am excited to implement, have used "promote" for ads on my Facebook page, and even dabbled a little more with LinkedIn.

Social Media Overload helped me focus on what I actually want to do for my market out of all of the options available to me. Sure, if you are more advanced than me with your Social Media campaign (did you know this is a thing?) you might not need to read this.

Actually, I take that back - Perlman's approach to the topic is so approachable that at minimum each reader can learn how to talk to other's about the topic with less assumptions, jargon, etc., allowing for more and more conversations both on and off line.

By demystifying social media, and the overload of options, I now know what I don't want to do and what I do want to focus on. That in itself is worth the read!

Recently, Corey sent us an invitation to receive a hard copy or Kindle version of his new book. I recommend you take the time and read it. I did. It is not too long and, while it may be a little technical for some, it provides great guidance on using social media, the context for using it effectively, identifying your audience and other suggestions for digital marketing, email marketing and more.

There are several contributors who write about additional areas like blogs, use of your website and specifically, your "sweet spot". Everything is focused on that "sweet spot". There are numerous examples to illustrate the points shared.

It is a strategic overview with specific, tactical approaches to consider. It also reinforces the emails he has been sending over several weeks with specific tasks to be completed.

The action I would have you take: read the book.

The benefit to you: catching more fish in your "sweet spot".

I just finished reading SMO by Corey Perlman and I must sat I really enjoyed it. My review doesn't come from the standpoint of someone within the industry. My point of view is that of a small business owner, which I am. What I liked most about the book are a few things. It's short, it's easy to read, and the most important thing is that it explains to me why I am putting in all this effort instead of just telling me to do it because social media is here to stay. What I liked even more is that Corey explained that not every social media outlet will suit my needs (thank goodness). Like Mr. Perlman and Master Yoda say, "Do or do not. There is no try." The same holds true for this book, read it or don't. You will only know it's true value to you by starting at the 1st page. I look forward to the next book.

Corey Perlman has done it again! He continues to show the necessity to stay current with marketing trends on the internet and this book ties it all together with social media. Social media is definitely not going away and despite what some businesses may think about not spending the time or effort to figure it out, they're really missing the boat because that's where it's headed. I highly recommend this book for anyone that owns a business, is looking to expand his or her business, and anyone that is responsible for the marketing plan for a company! And, I highly recommend you attend his eBoot Camp as well. Our company did and we definitely got our money's worth!

So many platforms, so little time. Corey Perlman sheds light on what matters, what doesn't and what's key to successfully marketing your business online. From social media, to websites, to SEO - he gets it. Corey is candid about what works, what didn't work and what he learned from it and shares not only testimonials but case studies from real customers just like us. I couldn't put the book down until I'd gotten through all of it and now I can't wait to get my hands on eBOOT CAMP so that I can catch up on all the tactics to support the new strategies that are now running rampant in my head. Corey nailed it and is now on my list of speakers and authors to watch.

I feel like there are 1000s of social media/marketing books out there and I've read a few of them. This author has a way to easily convey concepts with simple terms that are both easy and quick to understand, and also easy to apply. This is an easy read. And it's also a pretty funny one. I did read eBootcamp as well and these books seem to really component each other and I think they should be read together. This book is a good update on the latest social media strategies and some new tools that I'm definitely going to check out. Good value, straight to the point, and an enjoyable read.
