A gentle warning - don't use social networking for carreer success
on October 30, 2012
I tried to use social networking websites for carreer success until I realized what a great deal many social networking sites appear to be mostly about - keeping people down from being able to talk responsibly about their personal interests and share their feelings about important topics with each other on those websites. Why then call social networking a good way to increase carreer success? Well if I get it right , it'd obviously be for those who know how to talk their way on top on such sites.
The fact is that social networking websites are totally powerless in comparison with typewriters and handwritten messages.
No social networking admin can destroy a typewriter or a handwritten message , but they can find out what is your I.D. and report you if you try to do stuff that's useful to the community like exposing Hedge Funds.
I'm not saying I don't trust the author of this book.
The social networking areas I did best communicating on were areas whose account keepers were not trying to use their accounts to improve their carreers.
If you go to a social networking page and you try to do that you're banned.
Or you're not doing it the right way and if you do it repeatedly not the right way , the more often you try doing it the more likely you are to get banned from that page.
So if you can get banned on a witchcraft social networking page for talking about witchcraft , you can get banned on a business social networking page for talking about business - and that's what a lot of admins do to with people who want to increase their carreer success. Despite a lot of bans on social networking sites have had pretty good , legitimate reasons , some have obviously not.
And I'm not asking people to distrust social networking admins per ce.
I totally agree though , with the view of most admins that you shouldn't let just everyone in on a social networking page.
But my view on why most social networking pages are not worth it when it comes to searching for a career move , is simple.
If one person thinks that famous person X exists or not why the hell does it have to be reason enough for that person to be blocked forever from that page?
