Book Description

0810858576 978-0810858572 March 23, 2007
Social network analysis (SNA) is a technique that is used to determine knowledge flows and gaps in mapping social networks for various knowledge types. Social Networking: The Essence of Innovation discusses how social networking and SNA can influence innovation in an organization through the presentation of a broad range of concepts, examples, and case studies.

The book's initial chapters deal with developing personal knowledge networks, linking social networking to innovation and strategic intelligence, and exploring synergies among knowledge management, business intelligence, and competitive intelligence. The introduction, an overview of social network analysis, is followed by case studies and an exploration of applications, including knowledge mapping and the analysis of organizations. Software systems devoted to these areas are described, citing results achieved, and a final chapter takes a look at future prospects, making this an essential tool for managers, executives, business analysts, educators, and strategic planners.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Dr. Liebowitz has organized the information in a very readable form and has provided a useful index. (Feliciter, Canadian Library Assocation )

Liebowitz (information technology, Johns Hopkins U.) examines how social networking and social network analysis can influence innovation in an organization. He describes brokering roles in organizations and how social network analysis can identify knowledge flows and gaps, including an introduction to it and a case study of its use in an organization. The issue of trust is also explored, as is strategic intelligence and how social networks can increase it. 2.0 out of 5 stars unfortunately we'll never know, March 30, 2008

Selling books is almost like building a social network. Find early adopters to share the value and message. Unfortunately with a retail price tag of $35 for a paperback, I'll never know the value of this book. Good luck to the publisher/author...

5.0 out of 5 stars Trusted Social Network, November 28, 2007
This review is from: Social Networking: The Essence of Innovation (Paperback)
Social networking is evolving in the Internet with untold examples like facebook, orkut, mind space. But ask yourself which is these sites has a trust in built in them. So also i found this book doesn't focus in detail on building a trusted social network. There is one (www.collabotrade.com), which is growing in the internet and has the capability in building social network, do trading and organize events in one window. Hope this review gives a thought to the author in coming up with a new chapter in the new edition.
